A wide range of wonderful tunes, November 13, 2000

The Batak people relish music, dance and theater. This recording, made by a group that was touring in the US, includes a wide range of samples, from vocal work, to healing music, to "operetta" (Batak-style), to dance music. The latter is remarkably easy to enjoy: lively, quirky, and rhythmically engaging. While you might not want to listen to all these tunes all the time, you'll find that the dance music is something you'll keep coming back to for an exciting and enjoyable listen.
