From an Industrial Practitioner of Process Measurement & Control, July 9, 2006
This review is from: Batch Control: Practical Guides for Measurement and Control (Practical Guides Series) (Hardcover)
I have extensive experience with continuous process control systems. When I bought this book I was looking for a reference to learn about batch processes and Batch Control. I wasn't disappointed at all.
This volume is part of the Practical Guides Series developed and published by ISA (formerly "The Instrument Society of America", later "The International Society for Measurement and Control" and now known as "The Instrument, Systems and Automation Society"). The Practical Guides were concived to bridge the gap between theory and actual practice, and the stress is placed on the actual experience of measurement and control practitioners.
As I mentioned I own this book, and I truly believe it is a good introductory reference to the world of Batch Control. It gives an excellent overview using practical language and examples, dedicating 9 full chapters to case histories and applications, and will be helpful in your work if you are involved with batch processes.
The book is organized covering the following topics:
- History of batch process control.
- Fundamentals of batch management.
- Fundamentals of batch recipes.
- Namur.
- Marketing a batch system.
- Reactors, finishing equipment, and utilities.
- Methods of batch control.
- Fundamentals of units development.
- Fundamentals of information and software management.
- Fundamentals of batch logic documentation.
- Production scheduling.
- Fundamentals of fault detection and analysis.
- Specification of a control system for batch processes.
- Implementation of general recipe.
- Batch supervisory control.
- Equipment selection.
- Configuration.
- Safety as a methodology.
- Methodology of batch control.
- Principles of batch control.
- The role of the operator in batch control.
- Expert system techniques for batch process control.
- Object-oriented programming for batch process control.
- Advanced control of batch processes.
- Modeling and simulation of batch processes.
- Batch control in a CIM / MES environment.
