I've owned 3 pairs of these boots and it is the only lightweight regulation boot the USMC allows unless you have a chit.

We bought these boots for our son for his "starting OCS" gift. He wore them for all long 'humps' and runs through his ten weeks at the USMC Officer Candidates School in Quantico, and never once complained about his knees bothering him (something that he HAD talked a LOT about during boot camp at Parris Island two years prior to his admission to OCS). While it might have had something to do with less time standing for long periods, I have to think the cushioned insole must have helped. And he had his best time ever for the 3-mile portion of the USMC physical fitness test wearing these boots: the lighter weight of these boots, I"m sure, had a lot to do with that! He took them with him when he left for The Basic School last week, where I'm sure they will continue to serve him well.

What do Xena, Wonder Woman, King Leonidas and Robin Hood all have in common? They would totally wear these boots. Now, I am not a Marine or in the armed forces so there is little story about how I found this boot.

Basically, I've worn construction or hiking boots for most of my adult life. I've gone hiking in steel-toed work boots, I've worked all day in a metal shop wearing hiking boots. I've ridden many miles on mountain bikes wearing one or the other. Enter the combat boot. Combat boots have come a long way since WWII and Vietnam. Today's tactical and combat boots are like the perfect merging of heavy work boot to a hiking shoe. They are basically do-anything multi-purpose boots that can be used for PT, hunting, fishing, whatever.

This boot is essentially a lightweight version of Bates USMC Durashock Warm Weather Boot with one major difference. It is much, (much) lighter owing to it's lack of a heavy-duty Vibram sole. This is good because it reduces foot and ankle fatigue. However, it may not be optimal under -extremely- heavy use in certain terrain. I've read elsewhere that the sole has some toughness problems when worn everyday by soldiers patrolling the rugged mountains of Afghanistan. Well, it doesn't have the thick Vibram lugs like its Warm Weather and Temperate Weather counterparts. The trade-off is weight.

If you are just wearing an EDC bag and hiking through local forests or rolling hills these boots are the most amazing footwear, ever. Not too hot and not too cold. The boot sports two tiny holes on the inner arches covered with metal-mesh screens that were meant to allow water to drain and to keep desert sand out. They easily repel beach sand, this I have tested extensively.

These boots are great if you're a POG that does no training whatsoever. If you're walking around with no RUC then you're good. If you're typing on your computer or faxing a document then by all means spend your hard earned dollars. I've owned 3 pairs of these boots and it is the only lightweight regulation boot the USMC allows unless you have a chit. The dura shock sole isn't durable and cracks in warm or slightly colder weather.

I have used these boots in the infantry and loved them. They are great for long hikes or running. However, the second time around, these did not fit me very well. The length of the boot was perfect but the width was unusually large. Also, there is a place inside the boot that rubs on top of my foot. I guess they don't make them like they used to. I think I will stick with my Solomons....

Bought this pair of boots for garrison use...they are very light and comfortable. Bought these a whole size smaller than my running shoe size and they fit perfectly.

First, I have to say that I have never had a boot as light. It feels like a running sneaker. The leather is soft and supple and the tongue is thin and unobtrusive. There is enough lacing length that you can tuck your fatigues into the boot, or wear blousing straps. Either works. The sole is very shock absorbing. You CAN run in these easily. The flexibility of the sole and ankle give you great sure-footedness. I am not sure about how they would do in rough terrain with a heavy pack. There is only one negative to these.....they have the dreaded "Bates heel". It has no shape and is hard as a rock. The back of your foot can get a nice blister, or even a bruise if you use the boot heavily....But, If you wear it with the USMC shock absorbing socks, it is no problem at all. Just don't wear thin socks. Otherwise a great boot!

It would be a good idea to buy these if you're running a lot in boots. They have a soft foam type sole that won't make your shins and knees ache at the end of the day.
