Book Description

May 10, 2011
The role of instant millionaire is an elusive status often written and fantasized about but rarely achieved. In The Bathrobe Millionaire, author Jason Yelowitz tells his personal story of how he got rich overnight and realized his dream of swapping the corporate life for one of financial and emotional freedom. Peppered with humor, this memoir provides insights into the hazards and rewards of start-up businesses. Yelowitz shares his mistakes as an entrepreneur and the lessons learned, and he reveals his secret to financial success. He dispenses counterintuitive advice about what it takes to earn a lot of money and demonstrates these essential points: You shouldn't fall in love with your own business idea. Work and pay don't need to be derived from the same activity. It's best not to tell people about the business you're starting. Every start-up business should have a "stop loss" It's better to start a business with less money rather than more. The concept of "quit early, quit often" makes sense. You should start a business alone, even if you need a partner. In The Bathrobe Millionaire, Yelowitz proves that the laws of business sometimes defy gravity.

More About the Author

Jason Yelowitz was always entrepreneurial, having started his first business in the third grade. Though he longed to work for himself and be financially free, he also grew up in an extremely risk-averse household and could not fathom the financial risks involved with starting a company. He eventually started four business; the first three went belly up. (Including one for which he had raised over $10 million in venture capital investment!) Finally, dejected and near his breaking point, he decided to invert everything he had learned about entrepreneurship. He started his fourth business with little more than a clunky desktop computer and a $300 budget. Amazingly, this last business succeeded beyond his wildest expectations and made him a millionaire many times over.

Through all this, he never risked much of his own money, his credit score, his reputation or too much time. In his first book, The Bathrobe Millionaire, he explains all the lessons he learned along the way in a humorous, entertaining and lively manner.

Mr. Yelowitz has a passion for travel, adventure and for his family.

3.0 out of 5 stars Worth a read if you like Bios. Don't look to it for internet money-making secrets, June 25, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Since I dabble in affiliate marketing, I picked this up with some Amazon credit I had laying around. Obviously slanted towards affiliate marketers and while he insists it isn't a how-to make money on the internet book, the promotional copy kind of implies that it is.

You won't find much in the way of affiliate marketing, so don't expect it.

You will however find a good tale of how he went from student painting to riding the dotcom boom and eventual bust and falling in to the lead generation biz. An interesting story that is worth a read. There is some good general business advice in the later chapters that is worth paying attention to.

First half of the book was a fast read, but the pace slowed in the later chapters. The writing was rough in some spots, seemed like the author was struggling to turn some anecdotes in to action tips, but it wasn't terrible.

I would have liked to read more about some of the other tales he sidesteps, such as the legal issues that kept him on the sidelines for a few moths. All-in-all, a decent read if you like minor biographies. It was also refreshing to see a rather strong affiliate avoid jumping in to the "my revenue is dropping so to make up for it, I will sell you the secrets that used to work" plan.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Bathrobe Millionaire, May 12, 2011
This review is from: The Bathrobe Millionaire: Confessions of an Unemployable Job-Hopper Who Made a Fortune without Work, Risk, or Khakis (Paperback)
A fun and inspiring read! This is not the sensational story of some twenty something internet billionaire. It is the story of how an "every day guy" makes his way to a comfortable life by way of the internet. Many a person today sits dreaming of a life of "freedom". Mr. Yelowitz tells how he created his version of the "New American Dream", financial independence, the new fashioned way; no money, no boss, no employees, no partners, no risk ... no clothes. We intimately get to see how one person finds his way to riches by relying on his life experiences, personal wisdom and a commitment to a lifestyle outside of the mainstream, as I said inspiring.

4.0 out of 5 stars The Bathrobe Millionaire, July 11, 2011
This review is from: The Bathrobe Millionaire: Confessions of an Unemployable Job-Hopper Who Made a Fortune without Work, Risk, or Khakis (Paperback)
Great 'read' covering the generic basics of business ownership. For example and as we all know, most businesses fail within first year. So Jason validates new business owners should only invest 'pennies' until you see day light. Then and only then do you invest your 'dollars'. As a fellow online website owner... it was an enjoyable kick-back read all-the-while learning from Jason's mistakes and as well as his successes. This is not a 'get rich' book... nor have I ever found such a book. Look beyond the story line... and benefit & learn from Jason's experiences.
