5.0 out of 5 stars Terrific MADness, June 25, 2007
I've been a big fan of MAD magazine ever since I was a teenager, which was mumbledy-mumble years ago. Over the years I've read quite many of their magazines and books, and am so glad I stumbled across this one at a book store recently. Being a combination of volumes 1 through 3 of MAD Bathroom Companions, it's a huge collection of great stuff from MAD's heyday, mainly from the 1960s through 1990s. The pages aren't numbered, but it's got to be around 800 pages. All the MAD greats are here, including Sergio Aragones' pantomime comics, Dave Berg's "Lighter Side Of" funnies, Don Martin's wacky humor, lots of writings by Frank Jacobs and Dick DeBartolo, along with super drawings by such talents as Paul Coker, Bob Clarke, Jack Davis, George Woodbridge, and lots more. Also, the introductions to each volume by Gilbert Gottfried, Gene Shalit, and Trey Parker are both humorous and inspiring. There are not any movie spoofs in here, however, if you're a big fan of those. My only carp is that the page size has been reduced substantially from the original magazine, which usually is OK, but some of it gets unreasonably small. You may have to use a magnifying glass to see Sergio Aragones' margin drawings. (No cracks about me getting older - I can still see fine!) Aside from that, this is a really great collection, probably my favorite of those books spanning most of MAD's history and variety of crazy humor.

5.0 out of 5 stars Some of MAD's Best Work!, July 6, 2001
By
This review is from: The Mad Bathroom Companion (Paperback)
This isn't one of those books that focuses on one style of writing like TV, Movies, Dogs, or MAD covers, but it gives you the whole SHABANG! This book, correction, work of art, is a combination of tha best articles from tha best MAD writers of all time! Not only did I read it while on the pot like I was supposed too, I read it over and over everywhere I possibly was! I couldn't help myself! Another must have from the Usual Gang of Idiots!

5.0 out of 5 stars Mad isn't funny. It's hilarious., February 8, 2001
This review is from: The Mad Bathroom Companion (Paperback)
Greate idea for a book. Apart from burning it. You can read some of Mad's greatest articles in shortened form! It rocks! I can't think of anyone better to write an introduction than the man who brought life to Canibal!the musical, Orgazmo and BASEketball (Ignoring South Park) to life! Yes, trey parker! Buy it

5.0 out of 5 stars Classic Mad Collection, January 11, 2011
I've been a Mad reader since the early 70s and a subscriber since the 90s. This collection is a great way to revisit the good old days of mad, back when Dave Berg and Don Martin featured so prominently. Not to bash the quality of today's Mad Magazine, because I think it's still top rate, but I miss the Mad strips from my own early days.

So what's in the book? Page after page of recycled reruns from Mad. Are they any good? If you don't already know whether you're a fan of Mad, then I can't help you out.

My only small gripe (and this will show you what an old phart I've become) is that the print is smaller than the original size of the magazine and that some of the drawings are harder to see. (Pretty sad on my part, right?) This is especially true for Sergio Argones's small margin cartoons.

Other than that, what's not to like about 800+ pages of classic Mad strips. Fold up a few squares of TP for a bookmark and get reading!

5.0 out of 5 stars FUN, March 11, 2009
I'm a middle aged nurse. I have not read any of MAD's work since I was a teenager when I would occasionally browse through a few MAD magazines at the bookstore/library. I purchased this book because MAD always made me chuchkle and I was looking for inexpensive entertainment to get away. This book contains a variety of MAD's work. I'm glad I MADe the purchase.
