Book Description

March 2003
Just after kitchens, bathrooms are the most popular rooms in the house to renovate. Whether seeking advice on remodeling an existing bathroom or creating a new one, The Bathroom Design Planner tells you all you need to know. Large or small, modern or traditional, rural or urban, every type of bathroom and aspect of bathroom design is expertly covered. Leading interior design experts Vinny Lee and Maggie Stevenson offer advice and tips on a wide range of topics including showers and bathtubs, flooring and lighting, faucets and storage accessories. With an invaluable address list, and useful pages for checklists and notes, The Bathroom Design Planner is a complete and practical resource for anyone wanting to improve their bathroom.

The Bathroom Design Planner starts by comparing different styles of bathroom: contemporary and streamlined, traditional elegance and classic country. It then looks at all the issues to consider when planning a bathroom, depending on whether your room is big and spacious, compact, elongated or part of another room. There are three chapters devoted to the various components of a bathroom, starting with surfaces and lighting, moving on to fixtures and appliances and finally storage, furniture and accessories.

The final section of the book is an extensive directory of sources arranged in six parts, ranging from bathroom companies to suppliers of basins and tiles.

Editorial Reviews

Review

Designing a new bathroom appears deceptively simple - a bath, basin, loo, towel rail. But what about the walls, flooring, lighting, storage and fittings? There is a myriad of considerations to be thought of which is where expert designers Vinny Lee and Maggie Stevenson step in. Attractively presented, "The Bathroom Design Planner" embodies all that is necessary for an attractive, functional bathroom: practical, easy-to-use, well laid-out and clearly designed. Embracing all tastes the two designers explain the practicalities of bathroom design, suggesting styles that range from country to contemporary, classical to chic and offering supplier sources to make the whole project go smoothly. Separate sections on lighting, flooring, fittings and more take you step-by-step through the design process ensuring no aspect is overlooked and the pros and cons of each decision clearly explained. Pages for notes and sketches, pockets for swatches and a blank address book all add up to a handy reference guide for anyone considering a new bath or shower room. - Lucy Watson --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

1.0 out of 5 stars Not the normal touch, August 29, 2003
This review is from: The Bathroom Design Planner (Spiral-bound)
If you want some good ideas for a bathroom but still have that normal look, don't get this book. Stainless steel toilets and a sink in the shower stall with a mirror are some of the weird ideas that come out of this book. They even show industrial toilets that are mounted to the wall rather then the typical floor mounted toilet.

Some very strange colored tile patterns and designs and one bathroom even has old wood on the walls to give it that barn look. What kind of person would have wooden swing doors for a shower door and a bail of hay to sit on to change.

This kind of reminds me of abstract art that you would only find in California.
