My visually impaired son loves these books,
By
This review is from: Bathtime (Touch and Feel) (Board book)
This is the 2nd DK touch and feel book my 16 month old has ripped apart, but he loves them all. He is visually impaired, but loves the pictures of the babies (even kisses them), the colors are bright, and he enjoys the textures. My review is based on the version of this book that we have. By the first review, I am assuming that this edition is slightly different, but again, my son loves all of the DK touch and feel books. They are short, as one reviewer said, but I like the interactivity (without lights and music) and are perfect for introducing the practice of reading to your child.

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Bathtime (BABY TOUCH & FEEL) (Board book)
I was VERY disappointed with this purchase. The Baby Touch and Feel names is very misleading. There was little to no texture on the pages. There were seven (7) pages that had the SAME shiny, flat metal texture on the page- 1.) fish with shiny slick bubbles 2.) sail boat with shiny, slick sail 3.)whale with shiny, slick skin 4.) toothbrush with shiny slick handles 5.) turtle with shiny slick water spray around him 6.) submarine with shiny slick windows 7.) teddy bear with shiny slick water around him. THERE IS NOTHING TO TOUCH OR FEEL! The rubber duck and rubber bath tub had the same smooth rubber texture. If I saw this book in the book store, I would not have made the purchase. I expected to feel a variety of textures, which didn't happen. I also bought the Baby Touch and Feel "Animals" book and was equally disapointed.

Not much to feel,
This review is from: Bathtime (BABY TOUCH & FEEL) (Board book)
I didn't buy this book from here, rather checked it out from our local library. I love board books, as my daughter is 11 months and will tear anything paper. There are five pages that have something to actually touch. The part you can touch is very tiny. The duck and frog feel the same as do the TWO pages of towels. The other seven pages just have neat graphics that really don't feel any different than the rest of the page. I think it could have been done better, but overall isn't a terrible book.

My child likes this book! Its a little short but its really cute in the way that it is written. The pictures of the other babies that are a good size really interested my child.

The book came quickly and in excellent condition, pretty much like new. Cute little story, but not too exciting.

Disconnected Narrative,
By
This review is from: Baby's World Shaped Board: Bathtime (Baby's World Shaped Board Books) (Board book)
The photos in this book are bright and colorful, but I found the narrative disconnected and unengaging. The first two pages -- using faintly alarming language -- purport to be a first-person account of a baby's eagerness to take a bath. The second dyad is also consistent with this theme, but inexplicably feature an entirely different baby. The narratives of these two children are interposed throughout the book, but given their markedly similar experiences vis-a-vis the events of the story, and their virtually indentical attitudes toward bathtime in general, the purpose of this Rashomon-style narrative mechanism is never quite clear. The next two sections veer jarringly to an entirely different approach, enjoining readers to count bathtime accessories -- though the children depicted in the photographs are surely too young to count themselves -- and devolving into a list of items that does not even maintain the facile rhyming convention adopted in the rest of the volume. At this late point a turtle is introduced, and it is evident that he or she is meant to be a key player in the story, but this character is never really developed. I can only assume the turtle is meant to be symbolic of the main characters' tendency to retreat into the metaphorical shells of their bathtime routines, oblivious to the tribulations of less fortunate children, who are at that moment eating pureed green beans or having their fingernails cut. But as I have noted, the photographs are pleasingly bright and colorful. |
