Often, there is a disconnect between the author of a beginner's craft book and the reader, and the techniques and projects offered are beautiful, inspiring, but frustratingly not-so-simple. (Or, less frequently, the projects are simple but uninteresting and dull.) This book contains several projects that not only look do-able for someone looking to complete their first batik project but are also inspiring, pretty, and useful. The book includes a short history of batik and a useful explanation of common equipment and equipment alternatives. Highly recommended for beginners like me!

What a Surprise!,

When I picked up this book, I thought it was a book to make projects using Batik fabric. It's not! It's a book to show you how to MAKE your own batik fabric. It reviews the history of Batiks, tools and material you will need and talks about fabrics that work with making batiks, dye baths and more.
The projects are cute and simple. This book gives you the basics on getting started in making your own batik fabrics. I've never done any dyeing of fabric except tie-dye in high school, but this is so interesting. I think after I get a few of the projects under my belt, I will have the confidence in this gorgeous craft to make some beautiful art for clothing and art for walls. The photographs are clear and demonstrate the technique. The directions seem easy and they are consistently the same. List of materials, then list of what you need for the dyebath which include things like soda and salt. Great book.

a great way to learn the newest "batik" procedure...silk screen on fabric. you'll learn various projects in areas such as purses, lunch bags, scarves, home decor. The best part would be that the book will show you how to utilize items you already have within your home to produce the result/shape you want instead of having to spend alot of money on stamps, etc.... Has alot of advise and variety of ways to use examples.

Very Good beginner book,
This review is from: Batik: 21 Beautiful Projects Using Simple Techniques (The Weekend Crafter) (Paperback)
Excellent beginner book. Clearly writen and illustrated. The only thing that I would have liked to have seen would be some photos of more advanced work for inspiration to go beyond the simple projects provided.
