4.0 out of 5 stars get the GOTY edition instead November 26, 2012
By Dec
Platform for Display:PC Download|Edition:Standard
According to the description, this is the Nov 2011 release (base game), with all the dev playability patches since then and WITHOUT THE FIRST 5 or 6 DLCs. The Game of the Year edition (Sep 2012+ release) has the 5 or 6 DLCs:

Harley Quinn's Revenge
Arkham City Skins Pack
Challenge Map Pack
Robin Bundle Pack
Nightwing Bundle Pack
Catwoman Pack

The Catwoman pack is mentioned in Amazon's description and is (at the time of this post) missing from Steam's description. So I'm concluding it is the most recent DLC, or an unlock / automatic update, or else a mislabel/mislead.

I recommend getting the newer GOTY edition for $7.50 (75% off) wherever it's on sale (if you can catch it). If you get this standard older release, the DLCs at 75% off will still cost ~$8 extra. The DLCs currently add ~2 Gb of content and customization.

This version gets 4 stars because
1) the GOTY edition is now available,
2) the patches resolve initial release issues.

i did not deduct from the rating because of Games for Windows Live. in order to deal with the horrendous GfWL, i have denied 4 of 5 main Windows Live modules all firewall access by heuristics. you can save the game by creating an offline GfWL account.

3.0 out of 5 stars Love the Game, Disappointed by the PC Release November 24, 2011
Platform for Display:PC| Edition:Standard|Verified Purchase
Fun: 5.0 out of 5 stars
I held off purchasing this game for PlayStation 3 so that I could enjoy the benefits of the PC version, which were quite numerous when Arkham Asylum was released. The gameplay is much smoother due to the higher framerates and it was the first PhysX game I was able to play, which definitely increased the immersion. I've started playing this title and to my dismay, all of the advanced features I had hoped for are broken. You cannot currently run this title with DirectX 11 features or PhysX enabled as of now, regardless of system setup. System specs below:

i7-950 @ 3.2 GHz
NVIDIA GTX 570 (Overclocked)
6GB DDR3 1600 MHz
OCZ Vertex 2 80 GB SSD

These problems affect both NVIDIA and AMD GPUs and so far as anyone can tell, these are not issues with the drivers but issues with the game itself. Hopefully these issues will be fixed soon in a title update, but seeing as the title was delayed an additional month and no extra work was done on it... all I can say is I expected much more after the stellar experience I had with Arkham Asylum.

tl;dr: Just don't buy this on PC until the game has been patched. The price will drop by then, or you can just grab the already cheaper PS3 or Xbox 360 release.

Edit: I've updated to recently released patch on Games for Windows Live, and can say that some of the DX11 frame rate problems have been alleviated. Frame rate drops are not as vast, however stuttering is still an issue. Still not the performance I expected after the delays or after patching. It is above playable in DX11 however, so I've bumped the rating to 3/5. Hopefully with future patches the stuttering is fixed.

2.0 out of 5 stars Hear me, Microsoft, and hear me well May 4, 2012
Platform for Display:PC|Edition:Standard
Fun: 4.0 out of 5 stars
I will never, ever buy a Game for Windows Live product.

In fact this single product has made me question pretty much every single piece of software made by Microsoft all together. I used to own Microsoft stock. That changed about 2 days ago.

The reason is quite simple: a company that so blatantly disrespects its customers will simply not survive in the long term. The DRM requirements of this game are beyond unreasonable, they are simply ridiculous and idiotic.

Apparently, not a single executive in the company reaches the (obvious) conclusion that mistreating its gaming customer base with the sole purpose of "protecting its copyright" is a REALLY bad idea.

You are basically saying this: "You can either legally purchase this game and go through a lengthy process (mine took about 3 hours after download) to validate the product you ALREADY paid for or download it illegally and take 5 min to start using it"

Do you think your customers are morons? Do you think they are idiots? Well, you must be correct. After all I did buy this game, so I am obviously not very smart. Fortunately I learn from my mistakes and, boy, did I learn from this one.

Your Windows Live does NOTHING other than push for DLC content and preventing users from basically playing the game without an Internet connection.

And even all that would be fine and dandy if I did not have to download the Live client a mere 9 times.

And if it didn't update a mere 7 times before it actually started working

And if it didn't fail to update at the 7th time due to "server miscommunication" or whatever the error was and then had to redo EVERYTHING again.

I will never buy another GFWL again.

1.0 out of 5 stars Thank you securom May 4, 2012
Platform for Display:PC|Edition:Standard
Fun: 3.0 out of 5 stars
I purchased the game from steam during the current weekend sale. I can't even get it to load before securom informs me that I'm running a debug tool that I'VE NEVER EVEN HEARD OF. I'm fairly familiar with the quirks of pc gaming and am usually able to figure out issues with my games fairly quickly. I figured out the issue here as well. The problem is securom. Get this crap off my game. This is the last time I purchase a product with securom built in.

Neutral on the stars to discourage the half brain dead trolls who think securom isn't a legitimate issue to complain about. The experience I've had with the PRODUCT up to this point is really a -10.

This will be updated later, when I can actually manage to get to the point where it's playable.

I updated this but apparently amazon has lost it in the sea of data. I never did figure out what was wrong with securom. It just stopped doing it. which of course means it could start back up at any given moment. Once I finally got into the game it took 3 hours to fix games for windows live, which you need to be signed into or else you can't save your progress. 7 minutes into the game I experienced my first crash.

I'm rating this product 1 star. I'll probably come back to update again later, but this initial experience is unforgivable and I'll never rate this higher than 3 stars.

Another update. Most of the audio in cut scenes is incredibly low volume and distorted. I've got a "Sound Blaster Recon3D Fatal1ty Pro" in my system. A $130 gaming sound card and a some beyerdynamic dt770 pro headphones and I can't hear jack during cutscenes. I've checked around various forums for a fix but nothing is cutting it. I'm also getting more than 1 crash to desktop per hour of gameplay. Leaving the rating at 1 star.
