One of the greatest Batman stories of all., June 3, 1999
By A Customer
Birth of the Demon is possibly the greatest Ra's Al Ghul story of all time, and certainly the best post-crisis tale featuring him. Batman has discovered a way to use Ley lines to find out where Ra's will have to dig his Lazarus Pits, which are responsible for his prolonged life. This leads to an account of Al Ghul's history, his discovery of the Lazarus Pits, and how he became the man he is today. The inevitable confrontation between Ra's and Batman is spectacular. Denny O'Neil, one of our finest writers, agains demonstrates his complete mastery of the written word, and artist extraordinaire Norm Breyfogle provides the breathtaking painted art. This is a magnificent tale; if you're a Batman fan, it's required reading.

The Origin of Ra's Al Ghul, February 15, 2009
This review is from: Batman: Birth of the Demon (Hardcover)
Ra's Al Ghul is easily Batman's most intelligent and feared nemesis in the entire Rogues Gallery of Gotham. This book sets out to finally quell in questions the well-read Demon and Batman reader's questions about how Demon's head got his name, where he came from, how he came to be the mad man we know now. This book doesn't disappoint. The artwork makes you fall right into it, as if you were living it rather than reading it. A must-have to complete the saga of Batman and his struggle to defeat the world's oldest living eco-terrorist: Ra's Al Ghul.

Best Ra's al Ghul story I've ever read., October 30, 2009
This review is from: Batman: Birth of the Demon (Hardcover)
If you're a fan of the Batman comics or the excellent Batman: The Animated Series, you're probably familiar with Batman's "bond villain", Ra's al Ghul. If you've only seen the live action movies and only know Ra's al Ghul from Batman Begins, then that's too bad, since the movie, while good, didn't get into his fascinating origins, his immortality, or his gorgeous daughter Talia (not to mention they couldn't pronounce his name right. It's Raysh-al-Gool, not Roz-al-Gool).
Either way, you owe it to yourself to check out this book. It does a great job of explaining how Ra's al Ghul came to be who he is, and makes great use of some symbolism to show how in Ra's' mind, his struggle against the Batman is just a reflection of a larger struggle against what he considers to be his true enemy. Written by the creator of Ra's al Ghul, Dennis O'Neil, this is the definitive origin of the Demon's Head. Five stars.
