Editorial Reviews

Batman wings into an exciting new era, teaming with a mighty honor roll of DC Comics Super Heroes in the debut season of the smart, hip TV series! This exciting 2-Disc, 26-Episode Collection features Batman and allies Aquaman, Green Arrow, Blue Beetle, Booster Gold, Robin, Wildcat, Deadman, Plastic Man, Red Tornado, Bronze Tiger, Dr. Fate and The Atom fighting foes from mad scientists to intergalactic crooks, from power-mad dictators to out-of-control teenagers teenagers in High Definition 1080p! He even partners with another legendary detective: Sherlock Holmes! In this cool, cutting-edge and often funny series, bringing back old-school comic book styling and dry wit to crimefighting, Batman faces any peril - including other heroes stealing the show - in his relentless pursuit of justice.

That's what batman is like in the comics.

The only downside is that, again, this set sadly lacks the special features that were absent on the dvd collections as well.

I loved watching this show with my children.

It's finally here. The collection that we have been waiting on for nearly four years has finally arrived, and its almost everything that I could have asked for. To be perfectly honest, I didn't think we would ever see Batman: The Brave and the Bold in the glorious hi-def picture that we so richly deserved. The only downside is that, again, this set sadly lacks the special features that were absent on the dvd collections as well.

The picture and sound quality are wonderful, seeing as this show was gorgeous in the first place. This set is the COMPLETE first season, not the half season releases we saw with the DVD collections. There really isn't much to say beyond this. Batman the brave and the bold is a fun, bright, imaginative, absolute blast of a TV show, and now its finally on Blu-ray. It is a great show, and deserves to be in your collection. A treasure and an absolute must buy.

There are a great deal of people out there that don't like Batman: The Brave and the Bold for the very same reasons that I love it. The show doesn't take itself too seriously, it brings back TONS of past villians that aren't seen so often anymore, and it's just fun. One of the absolute best episodes of the season is the musical episode: "Mayhem of the Music Meister" which has it's own soundtrack. I can't emphasize enough how much I loved this series.

Bottom Line: Somewhat campy, but an enjoyable somewhat light hearted version of Batman. I enjoyed the artwork and most if not all of the stories in the series.

Let's get serious; any superhero cartoon is inherently a fantasy story. If someone actually tried to apprehend criminals the way Batman does in any of the comic books, movies, or television shows, then the police would hunt him down and kill him. So, there is an implied balance between the fantasy and the "realistic" elements of the superhero story. In the case of BATMAN: The Brave and the Bold, the stories are more light-hearted and campy with the balance clearly leaning toward the fantasy side of the story.

I tend to agree with many of the other viewers that of all the Batman television series, Batman: The Complete Animated Series does the best job of finding an entertaining balance, but that doesn't mean that you should completely discount BATMAN: The Brave and The Bold.

However, if you prefer you Batman to be only dark and tormented, then this series isn't for you. If you can enjoy a Batman that is a bit of a parody of himself, then this might be something you can enjoy. Likewise, while child suitable, there are some jokes that clearly aimed at the parents.

love the batman of my youth - lots of humor and action - good classic DC fun. the great thing about so many different versions of characters is enjoying the variety and takes on them.

It's obvious they are going back to an almost Adam West version of Batman, but the primise is very promising, Batman is teamed with a new hero from the DC universe to defeat villians, works for me. The Animation is amazingly smooth and very detailed, albeit obviously made in the old fasioned comic book stylings of the 1960s, still this is a show meant for children thereby adults need not get so uptight because it's not "The Dark Knight" version of Batman. From what I've seen it's a perfectly harmless and fun cartoon that children should enjoy, with adult supervision of course (and adults you can enjoy the cornyness of the detail, but still enjoy the benifit of something that isn't japanese based so that you can understand it a bit better).

I love batman, I'm a huge fan and I was surprised that a lighter version of him was so engrossing. The fact that music was incorporated into a larger part of the show was just icing on the cake; my family and I gathered around and sang with Aquaman on "Powerless" when he sang "Aquaman's Rousing Song of Heroism". This show proves that extreme violence isn't necessary in a Batman show to make it great.

This is not the Bruce Timm Batman, but a fun, silly Batman. The entire family can enjoy these videos and I love that they use the entire DC universe as guest stars. Don;t expect this to be the Dark Knight and you enjoy them as upbeat Batman shows.
