4.0 out of 5 stars I'm actually very surprised with this game
Right off the bat, I must tell you now. I am not really a huge fan of Batman. Never watched any movies or the shows. However, I played a couple of the NES games.

Batman Forever was based off of a movie, but the game is actually fairly good. Unfortunately, there are flaws.

1.0 out of 5 stars Holy bad games, Batman!
This is just too bad. For such a cool character, Batman has had some bad luck with video games. This is probably the worst and that's saying a lot. This game is no fun (did you see the one star?) and is not worth anyone's time.

4.0 out of 5 stars I'm actually very surprised with this game, February 9, 2011
= Fun:4.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Batman Forever (Video Game)
Right off the bat, I must tell you now. I am not really a huge fan of Batman. Never watched any movies or the shows. However, I played a couple of the NES games.

Batman Forever was based off of a movie, but the game is actually fairly good. Unfortunately, there are flaws.

As soon as you start playing the game, you'll realize that it is kind of a rebuilt Mortal Kombat. It has the same control scheme and the game is even made by Acclaim. It you like Mortal Kombat games, then this might be good news for you. Although it shares the controls with Mortal Kombat, there are, of course, new additions, such as the grappling hook and the Batarang. The grappling hook might take some getting used to.

What has me dock a star off this review is that the challenge feels cheap at times. There is a way or two how more than half your health will drain from an enemy using their attack (Not the standard fighting moves). Everything else is great.

If you are playing with a 3-button controller, you must press B and C (at the same time) + Up to shoot up. If you press all buttons at the same time, you just jump. And as for jumping down a hole, you must press C + Down. If you're using a 6-button controller, then you just need to use the Y button for the grappling hook instead of B and C. At least it isn't as terrible how the Super Nintendo version had it (Select + Up...Down + R)

The graphics are really amazing for a Genesis game. Digitizing the actors...just like Mortal Kombat. The backgrounds are also dark and stylish. To think that Batman Forever would've actually made itself at home on the Sega 32x.

The sound effects are also pretty cool, although you'd hear smacks and punches most of the time. And sometimes, you might not understand what the voice is saying when you collect a riddle (We could blame Genesis hardware for that, maybe).

The most frustrating aspect of this game is the fact that there isn't a save feature. Now, there are video games in which you don't even need to save your game. But here, it's pretty lengthy. Plus, the game gets kinda hard at times.

What's really awesome about this game is how you can play with another player in a co-op mode (Co-op Mortal Kombat, eh?). However, that might make the game kinda harder.

There's also a Training mode. This mode has you beat up enemies until you die. Just keep progressing through difficulty levels, beating up punks. You can play as any character you want here. Even all the enemies (Pick the guy with the flamethrower) and Two-Face. This could just be a Genesis game itself, considering how some popular Genesis games don't have this mode. You can also play with a friend HERE, which is where things get really fun.

Also in Training Mode, you can battle your friend. This is where it's just Mortal Kombat: Batman Edition all the way!

Overall, this is one kind of Batman game you should try out.

2.0 out of 5 stars Title should be called Batman "tarnished" Forever, November 23, 2010
= Fun:3.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Batman Forever (Video Game)
I like the original Batman game for this system as oppose to this joke. The graphics are very good I will say that, but terrible gameplay. The fighting system in this game was different and it was more than just a rock'em sock'em still side scroller. I liked how each of the characters had a huge list of moves; and how you can use them in the dual mode. Despite this being a bad game overrall I remember myself and my brother loved playing this game back in the day. It was cool when I was a pre-teen but now its just one of those stale games.

I love the graphics digitized graphics awesome one thing though gameplay much. Why couldn't have been a simple beat up the bad guys progress to the next level game Graphics over gameplay classic mistake. To use a gadget you have to put in a button combination like Mortal Kombat even the fighting engine was like Mortal Kombat. To get above and below areas is a chore. If I told you how to get above and to get below areas you'd be like WTF. Play Batman Forever Arcade on PS1 & Sega Saturan or download it on MAME 32 don't take my word for it Play it I dare ya? It's not as bad as some of the review's say but boy is this game baaaaaaaaaaaaad!

I remember this game being the best game I had ever played at the time. It's the best Genesis game in my opinion. It was just so cool.... I played with my brother because it had co-op and one can be Batman while the other can be Robin, and that's just freaking awesome! I haven't played it in a long time now, but I would say this game is worth it with the current price.

5.0 out of 5 stars Take It From Someone Who's Actually Finished The Game..., July 20, 2003
This review is from: Batman Forever (Video Game)
Holy Wrong Advice! I was moved to write about this wonderful Sega Genesis game by the bad reviews below. Were these guys playing the same game as me? 'Batman Forever' is a great game and is a ball to play. The graphics are amazing for a non-32X Sega game, they are dark, creepy and beautiful, just like the movie(s) they are based on. There are many complex and elaborate levels, where you not only fight a wide array of villains (including Two-face, Riddler, and some bizarre evil clowns!) but collect many types of items. You can play as Batman or Robin, with a wide array of Bat-gadgets to choose from. You also must free hostages and save the lovely Chase Meridian (if you make it through to the end, that is...)

My only complaint is that during the game you collect parts for even more evolved gadgets...but neither the book or the game menus tell you how to use them! I've used every button combination, but can only use the original gadgets, so the new ones are useless! But that's a very small complaint about one of my all-time favorite Sega Games. If you like Batman, Sega, and games that constantly reveal new surprises, how can you miss?
