5.0 out of 5 stars Surprisingly.. Best I've read in a While, January 8, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Batman Four of a Kind (Paperback)
This book collects 4 Annuals from 1995:

Shadow of the Bat #3 by Alan Grant

Detective Comics #8 by Chuck Dixon

Batman #19 by Doug Moench

Legends of the Dark Knight #5 by Chuck Dixon

207 glossy pages for such a modest price the book would be worth it if it were lousy, but it's anything but lousy.

The book seems to take place in Batman's early career. Think just after Miller's Year One era. Each chapter is both an origin and tale of the first meeting of a supervillain and the caped crusader. Poison Ivy, Riddler, Scarecrow and then Man-Bat. Even if you've been reading Batman for a long time these stories will add depth to the characters and if you're like me you'll develop sympathy for them as well.

Any serious BatFan should love this book.

4.0 out of 5 stars Pleasantly Surprised, April 4, 2000
This review is from: Batman Four of a Kind (Paperback)
When I first saw this book ( misplaced in the travel section, I might add ), I got very upset, seeing as how Batman is truly ONE of a kind. Turns out, however, that the writers were talking of the bad guys when they titled the work. Anyhow, it must've been a bad week for the artist. Although Batman looks impressive as always, the Riddler is drawn like a bean pole after a forty day fast, and his weight apparently has been shifted to Miss Catwoman who comes across like Kristy Allie in spandex. But these nauseating thoughts aside, the book is most enjoyable to read ( as long as you're not eating ).
