5.0 out of 5 stars chemistry, June 26, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Batman The Dark Knight Archives, Vol. 1 (DC Archive Editions) (Hardcover)
This is easily Bob Kane and his teams best. After a year of Batmans creation and the addition of Robin in Detective comics, the writers and artists chemistry starts most effectively here in these reprints of Batman comics issues #1-4. In the 1st issue alone they introduce the first appearances of Joker, Hugo Strange and Catwoman. I enjoyed all of batman archives volumes but this is the one I keep picking back up.

Volume 1 of the Dark Knight Archives series reissues BATMAN #1-4. Special intersting features include:

BATMAN #1---A reprinting of the famous 2-page 'origin' of the Caped Crusader "The Legend of the Batman-Who He Is and How He Came to Be!" originally published in Detective Comics #33; The first appearance of Batman's greatest adversary---The Joker!; The second appearance of Professor Hugo Strange, a story that was originally intended to be published in Detective Comics; Catwoman graces us with her first appearance, but is referred to as The Cat; and The Joker makes his confident 2nd appearance in the same issue!

BATMAN #2---A story in which Cat-Woman & The Joker have their fist encounter with each other; "Wolfe, the Crime Master"; "The Case of the Clubfoot Murders"; and "The Case of the Missing Link."

BATMAN #3---Included for the first time is an incarnation of the Puppet Master, while the Bat-Plane takes on a new and sharper look that will also soon be seen racing through the skies in Detective Comics; "The Ugliest Man In the World"; "The Crime School For Boys!!"; and The Cat Woman first wears a cat-costume for her 3rd appearance.

BATMAN #4---A promo page showcases some of Batman's previous and most exciting cases; The Joker returns and is up to no good, Gotham City is also named in this story; "Blackbeard's Crew and the Yacht Society"; Public Enemy No.1"; and "Victory For the Dynamic Duo!"
This Archive Edition is a must-have!
