Product Description

This 1/18 scale diecast car represents hands-down the greatest collectible ever produced for the famous '66 Batmobile from the legendary "Batman & Robin" TV series. And with all the press surrounding the latest "The Dark Knight" feature film, Batman is hotter than ever! Now you can get your hands on the ULTIMATE collectible for the car that started it all! Hot Wheels has really outdone themselves with this piece. It's the next evolution of their already fantastic Elite series. Check out the details they have packed into this little machine: - Leather wraped parachute bags - Parachute pull cords - Doorsill plates - Intricately detailed dash controls - Real stainless steel braided lines on the jet motor - Photo-etched turbine disc's - Metal light beacon cover - Metal missile launchers w/red rocket tops inside - Metal rear antenna - Metal rear exhaust trim. - Photoetched metal trim pieces throughout - Much, much more! And the display base is amazing - it's been crafted from real aluminum, and features the Batcape logo as a backdrop! We have yet to hear confirmation on the exact number of these that Mattel produced, but it's supposed to be right around 3000 pieces. And we don't have to tell any of you hardcore collectors this, but a production run that low is simply unheard of for the toy giant that is used to cranking out millions of toy cars. To say that this is going to be one valuable collectible in the future is an understatement. Whether you're a Batman fan, an aficianado of the original Lincoln Futura concept car that customizer George Barris turned into this Batmobile, or just a collector of really rare and unique pieces, this is one piece that belongs in your collection!

3.0 out of 5 stars Super overpriced for what you get, September 22, 2008

The Mattel Hot Wheels 1966 TV Batmobile Super Elite is a super disappointment for the price. The $100-ish "elite" version looks almost identical and is $200 cheaper! A couple of metal pieces and a plastic antenna do not make a $200 difference. The baggy looking parachute packs looks inaccurate and ridiculous. Overall, the car is overpriced and very inaccurate compared to the actual TV car. The two lower end models are much better values for the money...I suggest buying one of them and customizing them to look like the TV car!

I collect Batmobiles, and I have literally dozens of iterations of the Batmobile by different manafacturers in a number of different scales. Over the years that DC Comics has published Batman there have been a number of Batmobiles that changed with the technology of each era (which Corgi did a great job of replicating on their extensive line over the last few years), but the 'ultimate' Batmobile was the one made by George Barris for the 60s cult classic TV show. George modified a Ford Futura into the iconic toy for every late baby boomer. With great respect to Adam West and Burt Ward, The George Barris Batmobile was a co-star of the show. Every kid was blown away when the flame shot out the back of the car and it hurled onto the streets as another adventure began. I was very pleased to see that George and Hot Wheels teamed up to release a series of this 'Classic' Batmobile in a number of scales including this 1:18 Super Elite version. I've bought every size and version of this product, and I'll be honest, i wondered if the difference between the 'Elite' and 'Super Elite' was worth the price, and after several months I have to say that I do. This is not a toy you give to your kid to play with. This is something that 'big kids' buy and display as a homage to our youth. I'm going to go to an auto show and get George to autograph the Aluminum bat logo that's part of the amazing display for this version, and this is something that I'll pass on to my son when he moves me to a retirement home. This is a beautiful collectible, one that I cherish more and more as I look at it on the display shelf with the rest of my collection.

This is one of the best 1966 versions of the George Barris batmobile I have ever seen. I ended up buying 2 copies. Thanks!
