I came across this cd soundtrack of the original 1960's Batman film quite by accident. Over 65 minutes of pure batmusic by Nelson Riddle and all in chronological order too. Yes Batfans! its all there, from the main title right through to the end title. But thats not the end. Holy Bonus Bat Tracks! One of them is the original Batman Theme to the television series composed by Neal Hefti(no cover versions here). It comes with a sixteen page booklet giving a potted history of the film and its stars. This cd is going to be worth a fortune because this album is limited to only 3000 copies so hurry !

Great soundtrack, too bad it's out of print. However if you still want it but don't want to pay $47 or more, you can download the first 23 tracks from iTunes for $10. Well worth it.

Sometimes, the lines get blurred. I loved the Batman music when I recently bought and heard this music, for the first time since being a second grader in 1976 and watching the 1966 Batman TV program in reruns.

Over the past ten years I have developed a love for 1960s television sitcom scores. Evidently I am not the only one. Music, such as Batman, has been given class A packaging and release by the pound. All the little interludes and musical punchlines you forgot and were fated never to hear again are just a mouse claick away from your stereo.

And why not? Were better for it, as yesterday's trash culture becomes today high art. Listen to this Nelson Riddle score. I am reminded of so much great music, great music darting from all sides: the drive of Ventures guitar rock, the big band jazz of Don Ellis and Stan Kenton. The orchestral sweep of Ellington.

There was so much going on in music in the mid 1960s, and composes like Riddle, were, evidenced here, hearing every bit of it. This music is not rock, not jazz, not orchestral. It is not that I care about such labels. I don't.

But when I first started to listen to this score, I could not stop thinking Batmobile, the joker's green silk, the pangiun's darting cigarette.

But the more listened, the more I heard. Heard this music that incorporates so much, that adheres to nothing. The cartoons disappear, and there is nothing. Nothing but incredible arranging, incredible dynamics, incredible adventure.


Incredible music. You gotta hear this

This is a great, rare collection of music from the 'Batman' movie. Any real Batman fan should get it!

Such great music. It's a shame that the same problem affecting the DVD release of the TV show is also affecting the possible release of the music. Nelson Riddle (and to a lesser extent, Billy May for the 3rd season) produced some amazing work and I hope that one day, it will be released. Until then, this CD is all there is.
As far as the CD itself, my only criticism is that the opening theme to the film is of lesser quality than the rest. Which leads me to believe that it wasn't a part of the reels that the rest of the cues were culled from.

I used this Cd for my 1966 Batman costume. I loaded it to my ZUNE and played it from a small speaker. It was placed in my self made BAT-Utility Belt. When people saw my costume, they also experienced the music.
