Batman: Under The Red Hood - Soundtrack to The Animated Original Movie

The first time I heard composer Christopher Drake's music was on the Batman - Gotham Knight soundtrack. The score was a compilation of works by Christopher Drake, Robert J. Kral, and Kevin Manthei. I remember listening to the entire score on my iPod, rating the tracks which I wanted to keep while not paying attention to the composer. When I finished only the tracks by Christopher Drake remained. That's when I learned Drake clearly had a special talent for creating soundtracks for super hero movies. Since then I've searched out nearly everything he's worked on. Everything from Hellboy Animated, to Wonder Woman to Superman. In Drake's latest score, Batman - Under the Red Hood he demonstrates once again that he's a master at creating super hero action scores. Here are my thoughts and track ratings;


1. A Death In The Family 8/10 (A powerful and emotional track which really matched the scene)
2. Main Titles 10/10 (Dark and moving with a great Batman feeling build up)
3. Mob Boss Meeting 10/10 (Amazingly well done ambient and atmospheric track)
4. Amazo 10/10 (Brilliantly done drum heavy action track)
5. Batwing 9/10 (Great driving action track)
6. Batmobile To Arkham 9/10 (Superb but short variation on the Main Theme)
7. Interrogation 10/10 (Dark and gloomy)
8. Rooftop Chase 8/10 (Great track borrowing again from he Main Theme. Could do without the guitar riffs)
9. Flashback 8/10
10. Black Mask Strikes Back 8/10
11. Techno Ninjas 9/10 (Another great action track)
12. Break Out 8/10
13. Deal With The Devil 8/10
14. Ra's Story 8/10
15. The Bridge 9/10
16. Final Confrontation 9/10
17. The Choice 10/10 (Dark and moody track which also matched the scene)
18. End Titles 9/10


Christopher Drake is without a doubt a name to watch in the industry. The work he's done just on DC Comics movies is simply amazing. I've found myself watching some of films solely because he was the composer and wanted to hear the score. Batman - Under the Red Hood is a spectacular score on every level and fit every scene of the film. I'm looking forward to more fantastic scores from him in the future.

There are two things that I feel should be review for this item.

First: The item itself. If you are worried about buying this because of the "CD-R" note, then you have nothing to worry about. I would not have known it was a CD-R if Amazon did not tell me so. It comes in a regular CD case, with a front and back cover. The front is the picture shown on the item page. The back contains the credits, a picture from the movie, and a complete track listing. On the inside there is the usual insert which contains the credits and several pictures from the movie. Behind the CD is more artwork from the movie. (I have bought "normal" CDs with less than this!) The CD itself looks completely professional. It is not a CD with "Batman" written on it, nor is there a cheap label on it. Five stars on quality.

Second: The Music. This is an excellent soundtrack. I watched the movie and by the opening credits was saying "wow, I have to get this soundtrack! Who composed this?!" I had never heard of Christopher Drake before, but his work is truly amazing. It is a great soundtrack with a mix of action and drama. I recommend this to any Batman, sci-fi, or action fan who is into soundtracks. Five stars on the music.

This score is hands down one of the best Batman Scores of all time, on par with the last two Feature Movies (BM Begins and The Dark Knight to clarify).
