Product Description

Invented by G.Q.F. Manufacturing Co. over 30 years ago, the Hova-Bator is still the WORLD'S BEST SMALL INCUBATOR and the THERMAL AIR FLOW MODEL, is the most economical incubator available. The radiant heat tube gently warms the inside of the incubator, the air and eggs. Thermal action of the heated air flowing out of the exhaust vents in the top of the incubator, draws fresh air in through the bottom vent. This thermal air flow also assists the drying of the chicks after they hatch. This design includes two small windows on top for viewing. The wafer thermostat is proven, accurate technology that produces great hatch results. This model is not suitable for use with the goose egg turner, item No. 1614

Perfect When Used Correctly January 23, 2012
I use this for snake eggs. It is the best economy option out there (better than the turbofan model which dries out eggs), but only if you use it with a high quality thermostat. The wafer thermostat is unfortunately very cheap, so you can't really use it for something as delicate as incubating eggs. Just remove (or don't even assemble) the wafer thermostat, and replace it with your own. You have many options when choosing a thermostat to use, but make sure it is a PROPORTIONAL thermostat. A proportional thermostat doesn't simply turn the heating element off when it gets too warm; it adjusts the amount of power going to the heating element, so you get much more stable temperatures.

Temperature Fluctuates November 9, 2011
At first I thought it was the temperature in the house causing this incubator to fluctuate but after having it in a room with steady temperatures this incubator is all over the place.
I have been using it and experimenting with it for over a year with an egg turner and all. Most recently I had 16 eggs from my own hen with 100% fertility in the first week. The temperature in the incubator fluctuated from 99.5 degrees (I have a digital thermometer) all the way down to 94 degrees every single day. The eggs all developed fully when candeled. However, only 5 hatched. Over all it will help you hatch some chicks but the percentage is not high enough for me to recommend this incubator. I will be investing in a better one soon and using this one for day old chicks.

Works well April 13, 2012

Just finished our first batch of quail with 80% hatch rate. Took a little work to get the thermostat set to the correct temp. It required a little adjusting from time to time. The thermometer that came with it was three degrees off. I would recommend buying a better one
