This review is from: Battat Krinkles 85 Pieces (Toy)
This toy is really good for exercising the imagination. You can very quickly make almost anything. A farm (doesn't really look like one, but you have to use your imagination), a house, a convienience store. Robots, cars, televisions, space ships. You name it, you can probably make it - or something close to it.
For example, we made a farm house with a television room, bedroom, pig pen outside, and another pen for the other animals. Then we broke it all up and made a barn. Real fast real easy. Okay, the houses are just rectangles and the beds are just one of the big flat pieces. But you can make chairs, sofas, big screen television sets with speakers. I think it's just great! Let's you focus on the play not the manipulation of the toy. At 4 years old. This is a superior toy to other building blocks. Legos are too hard to use. Other big plastic blocks are mostly for towers, walls, buildings and other big rectangular shapes. Regular alphabet blocks are limited. Before we bought this toy. I actually had about 6 pieces of it from somewhere. We didn't know the name of the blocks, however we did note that our son would always play with them. We have other blocks that he likes but these were always his favorite since he was about 2 years old. He's 4 now. Limitations: The blocks are not for the "serious builder". Use Lego or something else for that. What you make might not stay together for more than an afternoon of play. I also bought the big set too. I like the big set better. It has more of the big pieces that are fundamental to make walls for houses and bodies of cars.

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)

We bought it for my son long time ago and he likes it and uses it all the time to build anything, especially transformers. So we ordered a new one for him at Amazon. The new blocks do not stick or "interlock" together that well, which limits the creativity. They lose real quick. Some parts won't even stick together. The older krinkles were much better & the quality was better too . My son played with it on the first day we received it and after that he just threw the parts around the house and never played with it because he can not build any meaningful thing with the blocks.

As an early interventionist/speech therapist, I'm always on the lookout for toys that will hold a little one's attention long enough to be able to accomplish my learning goals. These are WONDERFUL! I have used wooden blocks, alphabet blocks, and both types of MegaBloks and while most kids enjoy them all and will play with them for 5 minutes or so, I have never seen anything like this set of building toys for holding a toddler's attention! EVERY SINGLE CHILD I have used these with has played with them for a LONG time, like thirty minutes or longer, which is almost unheard of with any other toy as attention spans are so short at this age. There are great opportunities for language building for kids of all levels, whether learning colors and shapes, or as simple as making sounds (can make cars, trucks, trains, airplanes, etc. to work on various sounds), as well as simple words such as mommy, daddy, etc. with figures. Great for imaginative play and fine motor coordination as well so this activity incorporates lots of skills!
They ARE sometimes a challenge to make fit (which works for me, since it gives me an opportunity to teach children to say/sign "help") but if you just try moving it a couple different ways it will usually go in, and they DO fall apart fairly easily but kids the age I work with (mostly 2s, some 18 months+ with very close supervision) don't care about that as they tear their creations apart as quickly as they build them. Not a toy for a child who has meltdowns if their creations don't stay perfect, though! I've not had any child have a problem with them yet, but can anticipate the possibility with an older child.
