This toy is amazing, my son recieved it for his first birthday. He is now turning 2 and it is STILL one of this favorite toys. Every kid that enters my house plays with this toy. 1.0 out of 5 stars Frustrating!!!
My son received this as a gift, otherwise I would have chucked it out the window the 100th time he got his hand or binky stuck in it. As other parents have noted, kids like putting all kinds of things in this toy, not just the balls. I reached my wits end with this thing when my boy put a dozen crayons into this thing, then started crying to get them out. Of course...

And this toy has been banged around with no cracks at all!

4.0 out of 5 stars Playgroup favorite, November 8, 2006
This review is from: Battat Mirror Pound-A-Ball Toy, Colors May Vary (Toy)
My son started playing with this toy when he was about a year old. I would push the balls and after laughing like a loon and he would chase and hand them back to me. Very good for coordination skills. A short time later he was doing it himself and at 3 he still plays with it when he sees it at playgroup. This toy is a heavy favorite in the toddler room.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Fun For Little Toddlers, October 26, 2006
This review is from: Battat Mirror Pound-A-Ball Toy, Colors May Vary (Toy)
My son got this for his first birthday and has loved it for the past 4 months. He learned very quickly how to place the balls along the top and hit them with the hammer. He squeals while he watches the balls roll through the mirrored maze inside... it's very cute.

The only problem I have with it is that he's figured out how to stuff all sorts of small toys into the holes on top, including his fisher price little people animals. They can get into the toy, but I have to take a screwdriver to open the back and get them out. I do wish it unsnapped easier to free trapped toys, but the upside is that it's very durable and hard for a toddler to destroy.

Of course they'd all gotten worked down into the middle of the thing, and I literally had to get a set of tweezers/tongs to try to extract them. If I had realized how many crying tantrums this thing was going to cause, I would have quickly shoved it aside in a closet & brought it out only when the person who gave it to us came over.

Give this one a pass, check out other models. There are better designed ones out there that promote the same skills. If I had to do it over again, I'd get one of the Plan Toys pound-a-ball, specifically the Miracle Pounding toy, where the balls stay IN the toy, and don't roll under the chair, couch, etc. and there isn't any room for other things to get permanently stuck!

First let me say that my one year old LOVES this toy. My mom bought it for him about a month ago because he loves to bang things. At first, it was tough for him because you have to hit it quite hard, but within a day
he was a pro. The problem is that the base isn't too stable and comes off easily. Also, I am constantly chasing and searching for the balls. We are now down to 2. It's been a great toy for us, but I don't think it's for everyone.

This toy requires you to POUND the ball really hard. I'm not sure I want my 1 year old to learn to hit ANYTHING with a hammer that hard. I'm putting it away (it was a gift) for a year and then we'll see. I'm super bummed b/c it looked like it would be so much fun.

My little boy just loves this toy but as other reviewers have stated it can be a pain. Not only does he test to see what other objects fit in the holes (spoons, pacifiers, blocks, etc.) the balls fit other toys that they're not meant for (his ball bopper is a great example). Though I love how he reacts and learns from this toy I wish there was a way to open the mirrored box to get the toys out of it.

We got this for our daughter because she liked to bang things. Well my husband and I have trouble hitting the balls into the holes let alone our 10 month old. It falls over easily and is just over all poorly designed. The only saving grace is that she likes the balls.

While I didn't think much of this toy when my daughter got it for her 1st birthday, it has been one of the most used toys we have. She went through the various stages of placing the balls on top, then hitting them down with hand, then increased coordination in hitting it with the hammer, then as she got older, sorting the balls into the correct colored holes. She is four now and it never did get packed away. Even the older neighbors play with it. Now we have been watching our one year old twins enjoy it. When I purchased this one from Amazon, it was actually for my one year old niece. Hopefully she will enjoy it as well.

We bought this toy because we liked the cause & effect sequence it taught (if you push the ball through the hole you receive a viusl reward). We also liked that the colored balls matched up with the ball openings (Reinforces colors and matching). Our only dissappointment was the hammer. It takes a great deal of force to get the hammer to push the balls through the holes. If your child is sound sensitive (like mine) the hammer is an immediate turn off and becomes more of a stresser . Our remedy: we threw out the hammer and we have our child place both hands over each ball and push down. It's still a bit hard to get the ball to drop down but with assitance our child loves it.
