Batteries - rechargable or AAs?

Rechargeable lithium-ion. You can buy MaximalPower batteries on Amazon for about $7.00 (a fraction of the cost of Canon batteries) and they actually last longer than the originals.

rechargeable, I also bought a 2 pack with car charger as extra. It is very handy.

Which maximal power battery do you buy? I don't see the cannon power shot sx 500 listed.

Rechargeable, yes. As conveniently at AA, definitely not. I regret buying this camera and for all the rave reviews about it I can't give mine away. This camera sucks battery life a Hoover vacuum cleaner.
