Editorial Reviews

From Booklist

Gellman is an e-columnist with attitude. On the uncensored (so far) Internet, he wallows in a bad-boy persona sadly familiar in its wholesale co-opting of black street jargon and nonstop, chest-thumping iconoclasm. Think Mike Royko sans perspective, using Andrew Dice Clay's vocabulary and he who used to call himself Prince's restraint. Gellman aspires to be jarring, so the foregoing shouldn't be taken as damning. The guy is funny, especially at the expense of the everyday schlubs in the wacky world of Iron Mike. "Iron Mike Does It Doggie Style," "Iron Mike Chucks a Bagel," and "Iron Mike Visits the Poontang Ranch" are just a few of the little screeds herein. In "Iron Mike Takes LD Classes," he suggests that "only a retard could have masterminded the U.S. embassy bombings in Africa that killed 174 people, but only 12 Americans." His solution to the much-vaunted "`dumbing' of our species" ? "Exile all almond-eyed babies to the already dumb-populated states like Iowa, Indiana, and Kentucky." Wotta demon! Mike Tribby

5.0 out of 5 stars Do yourself a favor and read this book!, October 6, 1999

Iron Mike's scathing commentaries on the state of the nation and the world are dead on and absolutely hilarious. This book will make you think about how ridiculous our society can be, without being preachy. We are let in on the private life of Iron Mike; he introduces us to a regular cast of supporting characters who accompany him on his adventures. My personal favorite is his accountant (you'll see what I mean). There are plenty of celebrity cameos, as well. Most importantly, this book will make you laugh out loud again and again.

5.0 out of 5 stars Iron Mike is freaking hilarious!, October 6, 1999
By A Customer
Much like his e-column, Iron Mike gives a big heap of non-stop profanities and more information about his personal habits than you'd ever want to know. If you think this is a bad thing - you're wrong! Anybody who gets offended easily probably wouldn't want to read it though.

4.0 out of 5 stars politically-incorrect entertainment, October 5, 1999
By A Customer
This book was a barrel of laughs! My sides were aching from laughing so hard. Iron Mike really turns the politically correct movement on its head. This book is not for the easily-offended, but it is definitely sheer entertainment!!!
