This review is from: Laptop Battery for Toshiba Satellite U300 U305, Satellite Pro U300, Portege M600, Tecra M8, Dynabook CX SS Series (Extended Capacity 7800mAh) (Electronics)
Got 6 months ago, still holds charge as well as when new. Seems to last as long as the original Toshiba (3-5 hrs depending upon what I'm doing). Great replacement for the Toshiba at a fraction of the cost. Would rather save the money and apply to a new laptop when my U305-S5127 finally dies. Battery/laptop is in constant, harsh use: air travel 2 days a week and left on the charger all night (not good for a battery) most nights.

The product description information states that this battery is a replacement for Toshiba part PA3594U-1BRS and it will work in the Satellite U305-S7477. However, this information is incorrect. Printed on the battery itself, it says that it is a replacement for PA3593U-1BAS, PA3594U-1BAS, and PA3595U-1BRS and that it will work with the M600 and U300. My U305 does not recognize this battery and will not charge it. It is completely worthless and now I have to fight with this third party company to get a full refund. Original Manufacturer products are the only way to go.

This battery fits my toshiba perfectly. I would have rated 5 stars, but it does stick out the back of the laptop, since it is somewhat larger than the original, but I guess that's the compromise when going with a high-capacity battery. It lasts at least 3 hours on high-performance power mode, 4 hours on balanced mode (I haven't tried the power saver mode, since it lasts long enough in the other 2 modes. I had it for only 1 month, so I can't comment on durability.

I got this battery because the U305 toshy is a hard laptop to replace--as it's built so well unlike many newer, flimsy laptops. The original battery was down to 36% charge capacity (about 1hr with major power restrictions). This battery brought it back to its original glory and then some! The shape of it is different than the original, the cylinder you see at the back of it protrudes the original conformation by about 2/4 of an inch from the back most part of the laptop and raises the bottom back of the laptop by about 1/4th of an inch. The battery itself is sturdy and fits just as well as the original.
The extra junk in the trunk worried me for a bit, but it turns out that it still fits in its YADI case without feeling like I'm forcing it to stretch--so it's really not that much extra sticking out. The battery comes with good rubber grips on the bottom of it that stick well to any surface. The fact that the battery raises the laptop up a bit is actually kind of a plus, since the new angle helps my wrists out ever so slightly (just like how keyboards are generally raised in the back). The battery life is incredible. Most Toshiba laptops are built to a design that favors the professional--so there's an emphasis on power saving already. Coupling that idea with a battery that is 150% the original capacity exploits the greatest part of a Toshiba even further and the results won't disappoint. I'm a college student, so not having to worry about battery life during class is nice. I still regulate how much power gets distributed on the rails (the Ubuntu OS does a great job with this) and I'm able to squeeze about 5-6hrs out of it so far. That's on the extreme side though (wifi off, harddisks spun down, usb disabled, &c). I'd say you can expect a max of 5 hours using conventional power saving options on the U305. For all laptops in general, just divide 7800 by the current mAh of your battery, then multiply by the longest time you've gotten out of your laptop when it was new to give you how long the new battery will last. As a side note, make sure you follow the instructions that come with it. I know, following the instructions for a battery installation, lame right? Laptop Li-ion batteries are 'smart-batteries' and very sensitive to charge cycles though, and if you don't fully charge before first use and fully discharge it afterward the chip within the battery will think that it's capacity is however much it received on the first charge--and it's hard to tell it otherwise! |
