4.0 out of 5 stars Does the job
This is a cut to fit solution to a heat loss problem. Now that it's in place, I don't notice it. The supplied Velcro tape made no sense to me, as you would have part of it permanently attached to the shutter. It would look tacky. I went out and bought two roll of adhesive magnetic tape (less than $3.00 for both), attached the tape to the back of the insulation, and stuck...

3.0 out of 5 stars Battic Whole House Attic Ceiling Fan Seal Cover
The first one that Battic sent was damaged but I was very impressed with the fact that a real person talked to me and they gave me no hassle in getting a new one; they didn't even want the damaged one returned.

The cover itself is only 'okay'; I knew what it was before I ordered it but it's about the only thing in the market that is made for aftermarket...

The supplied Velcro tape made no sense to me, as you would have part of it permanently attached to the shutter. It would look tacky. I went out and bought two roll of adhesive magnetic tape (less than $3.00 for both), attached the tape to the back of the insulation, and stuck the insulation up to the shutter for a tight, magnetic seal. When summer comes, the insultation goes away with no evidence of its existance.

5.0 out of 5 stars almost invisible, June 17, 2009

I was amazed that whole house attic fan covers are pretty much off the radar of box stores and hardware stores, but thanks to the www... After reading reviews about magnetic tape to hold the Battic fan shutter seal in place I checked my fan frame with a magnet, it's aluminum, so I used the velcro tape. The fan frame has a 1/4" recess into which the fan shutter seal fits (after trimming) so the seal material is almost invisible. Too early to tell what improvement this application will have so far as energy savings but any insulation is better than (none) bare fan slats. Good product. Took longer to clean 20 years of grime and smoke residue from the fan slats and frame than to install the shutter seal.

4.0 out of 5 stars Seems to work well, November 21, 2007

The cover seems to work, we'll have to get into deep winter to know for sure. One thing that may be a problem is the velcroe tape used to apply the cover. I'm sure it doesn't actually "seal" the opening. But it sure beats nothing at all and it was fairly simple to install. A bit pricey though.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good product, poor documentation, July 1, 2010

This closure requires trimming and installatiopm pf velcro tape.

It also comes with white vinyl tape to put on the edge.

If you are going to do this you you will need about an inch on each side beyind the velcro.

Alos the white electrical tape stretches and you have to apply it without thsi tension of you put it on the edge. Otherwise the remaining tension on teh tape will either pull it off or curl the cover.

I had to remove the edge tape becuase I did not leave enough room to apply it and applied under tension.

The cover itself is only 'okay'; I knew what it was before I ordered it but it's about the only thing in the market that is made for aftermarket replacements...I was hoping to find something more robust but it doesn't appear that anyone including big box stores has anything better to offer.

1.0 out of 5 stars Glorified art project, November 4, 2011

Lets set the record straight with what you are actually getting here. In the box will be a roll of foil backed insulation, a roll of electrical tape (white), and a bunch of velcro. What they don't tell you is that this is completely do-it-yourself with items that you can buy much cheaper at home depot. You cut the insulation to size, add the velcro and I guess make pretty edges with the electrical tape!? The product is also must less attractive than it is in the picture. Don't waste your money.

I've never written a prodect review before, but getting this product just made me THAT angry.

2.0 out of 5 stars Pretty disappointing, October 5, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Battic Door Whole House Attic Ceiling Fan Shutter Seal Cover, Fits up to 36" X 48" Attic Fan Shutters (Misc.)
The Battic Fan Shutter Cover arrived with a piece of insulation with a white front, a hook and loop system (velcro) and a roll of white electrical tape to act as a type of molding for the edges. There are detailed installation instructions on line which did not work for me. When the insulation is removed for trimming, part of the velcro is supposed to remain on the shutter and the other part is to be transferred to the insulation. In my case all of the velcro remained on the shutter. I then had to peel it off and stick it onto the insulation. Because of this I do not have high hopes of removing this successfully come next summer when I need the fan again. It may make sense to buy a few roles of magnetic tape if your shutters are not aluminum and bypass the whole hook and loop system. The insulation really does need a molding for the edges but instead of sending a white plastic strip to slide or snap around the edge, the company supplies cheap, white electrical tape. Besides the fact that the tape gives the whole project a very cheesy look, the tape peeled off within a day and I had to replace it with something stronger. Basically, I feel that I spent $40 for a piece of insulation with a white veneer on the front. This is pretty disappointing. I do not recommend this product.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great and easy to install, September 12, 2009

This review is from: Battic Door Whole House Attic Ceiling Fan Shutter Seal Cover, Fits up to 36" X 48" Attic Fan Shutters (Misc.)
This attic ceiling fan cover works well to keep out the draft (heat and cold) of the attic. Wish I had installed one years ago. Price is reasonable considering it would cost as much to put together the parts to make a homemade version. It is easy to remove and replace whenever you need the fan. I am very pleased.

5.0 out of 5 stars whole house attic fan cover, July 1, 2009
This review is from: Battic Door Whole House Attic Ceiling Fan Shutter Seal Cover, Fits up to 36" X 48" Attic Fan Shutters (Misc.)
This item did the job for me. A lot of hot air was coming into second floor hallway through the attic fan shutters affecting the thermostat settings. It completely sealed off all the attic heat and made out second floor air conditioner more manageable.
