4.0 out of 5 stars high action, August 22, 2007
This review is from: Battle in the Arena (Pictureback(R)) (Paperback)
As the title suggests, "Battle in the Arena" recounts the Geonosian fight scene in "Attack of the Clones." It actually goes beyond the arena to take the reader to the end of the Episode II story. The high quality illustrations are straight from the film. The layout is creative in the way various images and text interact over a background. The writing style is a bit choppy and almost reads like a screen play. The text is a factual recount of events with no expression of artistic license. The reading level is well suited for a third grader. While the diction runs high, there are few words on each page. The book features little plot or character development. When combining this dynamic with the combat, this title will best appeal to the boys. Despite the shortcomings, most young readers will find this book engaging. "Battle in the Arena" stands as a shallow but high action read.
