5.0 out of 5 stars Fun game? let me think. hmmm. YES
I bought this game [a while ago] and i'm still playing it.The attacks are cool looking, the characters are cool looking, heck, the cover is cool looking. but looks aren't everything. the game tops street fighter, mortal kombat, and tekken put together. i've beaten it several hundred times, and it never gets old. the special attacks are easy to do, and it is very fast...

3.0 out of 5 stars Why is everyone hyping this game up again?

I'm not gonna take long to do this. But it's my fault that I bought into the hype around this game online. It was cheap (less than 6 bucks) so I don't think I missed out on much. However, it doesn't change the fact that this is just a by the numbers, 2D fighter that doesn't do anything unique. The original on the Playstation was great...

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Game in the Entire Series, July 9, 2010
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Battle Arena Toshinden (Game Cartridge)
I had been a fan of the main PS series when I got this port. Surprisingly for a port, it was very well done. Great 2D graphics for its time, fluid animation and input, and most importantly, great gameplay. Its cutscenes also have a sense of humor that the main game's convulted storyline (unfortunately) lacked. While the original game has not aged well to me, I still like to dust off my Gameboy Advance and play this one to this day. Highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars This game RULES!, January 3, 2002

Last week I bought this game at an used video game store. I ment to get a GBA game, but once I saw this, I knew it was mine. It's too bad that it's an old gameboy game, and is labled, "a bad game". This game is really fun. At first I was dissapointed when I beat the game on the second day, but then I found out that there are other modes besides normal. There's Jet mode, Scorcher mode, and many more. I recomend this game to lovers of the Playstation version or Tekken. If you have the money, buy it.

I'm not gonna take long to do this. But it's my fault that I bought into the hype around this game online. It was cheap (less than 6 bucks) so I don't think I missed out on much. However, it doesn't change the fact that this is just a by the numbers, 2D fighter that doesn't do anything unique. The original on the Playstation was great when playing it. I know it was in 3D and this isn't, but this game could have been so much more. I've played tons of 2D games that kick ass and this definitely isn't one of them. It's just an average fighter that I never would have paid attention to (again), if I didn't buy into the hype!

My favorite in the series is probably Ellis. But since my favorite guy is Kayin, I picked him first. I beat the storyline in less than 2 hours time and the main one that gave me trouble was Gaia. But he's a cheap boss who has powerful moves. You have to be kinda lucky to beat him.

The main thing about this game that stood out though was its humor. I haven't played with anyone else so far, but Kayin has got to be the biggest smart ass in the game! What he had to say about some of his opponents after he left them in the dust at times had me laughing out loud.

But I can't give this game much praise otherwise.

Graphics? Fine.
Sound? Overall, Meh.
Controls? Overall, Fine.
Fun Factor: Meh. You can use your special moves which help, but don't do much damage.

Overall, I just wouldn't recommend this one like everyone else. It has a decent user rating here and at gamespot but I simply don't agree. It's a pretty bare bones experience that could have benefited from a cool gimmick or some needed depth or something. I don't know what else to say! Mindless "fun" I suppose.

3 stars (or a 6/10).
