Pretty Good Thrash,
By Fred Rayworth (Las Vegas, NV United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Battle At Helms Deep (Vinyl)
I bought this album in a record store in Madrid, Spain in the mid 80's, mainly because of the cover. Sure, there is a blatant bias toward the Lord Of The Rings in the lyrics, but this is still good thrash from a group of guys from "Joisy." I had a compilation tape of first songs from a slew of metal albums and The Hermit is one of the better ones.
The musicianship is top notch and the songs have plenty of variety in structure. The only thing that bothered me were Bob Mitchell's vocals which often came off as a little shrill. However, compared to many of the high-pitched screeching singers of the hair metal bands that saturated the market during this era, his vocals were harder and better. Highly recommended. |
