Who is the better clarinetist?,
By "clarinetmama" (Saint Cloud, MN United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Battle of the Bands: Artie Shaw Vs. Benny Goodman (Audio CD)
A couple of months ago I asked a clarinet instructor who the better clarinetist was: Shaw or Goodman? He didn't have an answer, or was too diplomatic to offer one Apparently this is a question swing fans have asked for years. Of the pieces that help answer the question are BG's Sing, Sing, Sing and Shaw's own Clarinet Concerto. In my humble clarinet playing opinion Goodman plays a more raw, aggressive clarinet, while Shaw is smoother and refined. Buy this cd for yourself and see if you can answer the question. I am getting one for my dad (also a clarinetist) and my friend and former band director (yep, a clarinetist too).

This review is from: Battle of the Bands: Artie Shaw Vs. Benny Goodman (Audio CD)
IF YOU REALLY WANT GET PEOPLE OF MY PARENTS TO FIGHT, GET THE ARGUMENT STARTED ABOUT WHO IS A BETTER PLAYER ARTY OR BENNY. I DO NOT HAVE THE ALBUM BUT I KNOW EACH OF THE SONGS ON THIS ALBUM, AND MY ONLY COMMENT IS WHY IT HAS NOT BEEN THOUGHT OF SOONER. PUT THIS ONE IN YOUR POST TRAUMATIC, BAD DAY AT WORK, LOOSING YOUR MIND IN TRAFFIC, FIRST AID KIT.
