5.0 out of 5 stars Swinging with the best!, January 30, 2009
This review is from: Battle Of The Bands: Duke Ellington Vs. Count Basie (Audio CD)
OK, it's a compilation of 40's tracks when both the Basie and Ellington bands were on the RCA label. OK, technically it's not a battle of the bands.OK, it's not live either. So why buy it? Because simply you get a discs worth of wonderful swing music by two of the giants of big band jazz. There's not a bad track on it,and you'll be tapping your feet the entire time. And, you get a vocal by Jimmy Rushing, perhaps the best big band blues singer ever. And you may not even have many of the tunes, as the Basie material is from the late 40's when the band's material was not considered his best. Not by me. Give this a listen. You will enjoy it.
