This review is from: Battle of the Bulge (Hardcover)
Pimlott steers clear of a treatise on generalship and concentrates his firepower on a series of causes and effects leading to and through the Battle
of the Bulge. The few maps he uses are well done and more than enough to show the precarious positions of the stalled First and Third armies at the beginning of the Bulge. Coupled with the narrative, it is a simple task for amateur and professional historians alike to draw their own informed conclusions in regards to thetimelines and recovery tactics required to reset battle lines and prepare for the final drive towards Berlin. This small work answers several questions left unanswered in major works such as Eisenhower's Crusade in Europe. It is an interesting and informative volume and a must-read for any serious student of war.

5.0 out of 5 stars inside info on book, July 15, 2008
Hitler's last offensive proved it be the one of the most threatening challenges to growing Allied supremacy in Europe near the close of WW II. Retreating on all fronts, with British, American and Soviet forces ready to plunge in tot eh Reich, Hitler launched an offensive on the Western Front which caught the Allies by surprise. The plan was to force a wedge through he Allied position in Belgium, return the port of Antwerp to German hands, and turn the tide of war in favor of Germany. John Pimlott a Sandhurtst scholar, tells the story of the battle with his customary clarity. Illustrated by 100 photographs, line drawings and technical illustrations, Battle of the Bulge is a colorful account of the last great battle fought in WWII.
