The book is filled with great line drawings depicting the various aspects of the Civil War battlefield including march order, medical treatment, spies, fire fights and more.
This soft cover book is more like a sophisticated comic book and is a great overview of the period. I would say this work is an inch deep, but a mile wide and lacks great detail, but covers every important aspect of Civil War Battle.
I liked it so much I bought two copies, as I misplaced my first one and quickly ordered another.
The book is quite short for the amount of information it covers, but does a great job at conveying a lot of critical information in a very accessible and enjoyable way. Tons of information regarding tactics, equipment, theaters of war, etc, are all covered in considerable detail, and the illustrations help to bring this information to life and give readers an excellent visual grasp of the topics covered.
In all, I would highly recommend this as a fantastic casual civil war reference, and even more so when considering the quality of Dennis' illustrations contained throughout. Definitely deserves a place on any Civil War history buff's bookshelf!
