Book Description

Battle Club March 7, 2006
In round 1, Mokichi arrives at school and makes a ruckus, gets beaten, thrown by Tamako and finally humiliated before the whole school. Tondemon points him to the wrestling club where he sees Higuchi 'wrestling' Tamako as punishment for not bringing the Pocari, Mokichi asks to join the Wrestling club. In round 2, Mokichi must flip Tamako over to enter the club. He struggles for 20 minutes to no avail. Finally distracting her by pulling off her panties he manages to lift Tamako and almost turns her over before she throws him to the ground. In round 3, Mokichi is saved in the bathroom by Captain Taki from the Karate Club. They talk about wrestling, they meet Tamako, Taki demonstrates some wrestling on Tamako, Tamako is pinned by the building. In round 4, flash back, one year ago: Tamako is getting ready for her high school entrance exam for Swan academy, her father gives her her dead mother's gold medal. The train has had an accident so Tamako must run to reach the test on time. She drops her wrist and ankle weights and runs. She trips and falls enroute. Gets up and pulls off the spring strength training mechanism she was wearing, Mokichi is being savagely beaten below, Tamako helps him and runs off to collapse in front of the school.. one week too early for the test. In round 5, Tamako is still trapped under the rubble. Mokichi tries to free her. Karate club members show up and start beating Mokichi. Higuchi shows up looking for Tamako. She turns to leave before finding out where Tamako is, the leader of the karate guys throws an insult on Captain Taki, Higuchi beats the living crap out of the extras, then has her leg caught by one of them in time for the leader guy to pull a special move on her. Tamako emerges partly from the rubble, grabs the karate leader's leg and Higuchi performs a really powerful move on him. This is watched by Shiba, 2nd in command of the Karate Club. In round 6, Mokichi trains, helps Tamako train a little then leaves because he becomes 'excited'. He gets trapped in the bathroom by a bunch of Karate club members having an impromptu meeting. Shiba calls for beatdowns on all Wrestling club members. She decries the 'leader' from the last chapter as insufficient in kiai, she also talks about Kiai, or Fighting spirit. Mokichi gets caught. In round 7, Mokichi is beat down, and beat down again, Mokichi tells Shiba that the Wrestling club members feel a whole lot scarier than she does. Tamako shows up and is completely immune to Shiba's Ki attacks. Shiba falls out of the now ruined bathroom to the ground. Tondemon recites the Heart of Wisdom sutra. Shiba wakes. Tondemon talks with her about Fighting spirit and a pun is made on kiai, replacing the second character with 'love' He talks of two hearts necessary for Martial arts. In round 8, Shiba makes a box lunch, destroys it, and makes another. She sputters her way up to Tamako, fantasizing the whole day about her. She leaves, meets Karate club leader from before. He tells her she's to be punished and expelled from the club, she beats them all up. Tamako finds her and eats her now soiled food. In round 9, wrestling club goes to the beach, Mokichi swims with weights, is tricked by Tondemon with a shark fin. Tamako last year was so frightened by the same trick that she swam out into the open ocean and was found a week later, she is afraid of the ocean. Mokichi declares he'll do swimming and goes out, and gets found by a real shark, a very large one. He swims frantically, with the weights on. Tamako calls the shark in using a fox call. She suplexes the shark, they all have shark for dinner. Tamako's fear of the ocean is transferred to Mokichi.

4.0 out of 5 stars JOINING THE WRESTLING CLUB, October 27, 2006
This review is from: Battle Club Volume 1 (Paperback)
When Mokichi Saitou arrives at Swan Academy Senior High School he is determined to become the baddest dude on campus and rule over its students as his devoted and fearful subjects. Too bad he gets his butt kicked twice that first day and hung up on a fence, minus pants, with his small "unit" hanging out for everyone to ridicule and he also gets thrown to the ground and destroyed by a beautiful girl! Hoping to improve his fighting skills he decides to join the wrestling club, not knowing that the same girl that smashed his head into the ground, Tamako, is a member! He quickly learns that his training will be brutal, but at least he'll get to try all kinds of compromising positions with the pretty girls of the club. He even starts to get sweet on Tamako, but his idyllic existence will come to an end fast as the Karate club wants to settle a bloodfeud. Mokichi is the weakest member on the wrestling team so he'll probably catch the most heat.

This title is rated Mature for a reason, since it features a lot of nudity and sexual situations, but nothing beyond the equivalent of a rated R movie. Battle Club is not pornography. It is simply what I would call "erotic comedy" with a lot of action thrown into the mix, but the fighting always takes on a sexual context with the fighter's hands, heads, and other extremities being stuck in the most tabooish of places possible. There's also plenty of panty shots no matter even if a character is just tying their shoes. There's not much of a plot here, but the manga is quite funny, especially in a scene where Tamako takes on a giant great white shark with her patented wrestling move! Sexy title whose comedy shines.

4.0 out of 5 stars Fan Service, and more!, July 15, 2006
This review is from: Battle Club Volume 1 (Paperback)
When first decided to read this manga I felt that; okay another fan service book, with fighting, I was right. This manga is absolutely enjoyable to read. The story is based in wrestling fight styles as being the strongest form of martial arts. I must admit I am starting to get convinced. The story itself is about a guy Mokichi, who is a loser who decides to join a all girl wrestling team. Oddly enough, he manages to join, after getting brutally beaten several times. As the story progresses you will see that he does not get stronger, but shows more so how much of a wimp, and a wuss that he is.

Anyway I digress, the story is pretty fantastic, but I love that type of stuff, probably because I love working out ^^. When I read it, I get pumped up to go work out for about 2.5 hours. If you like fan service, and you enjoy combat mangas that has comedy this is something that you will enjoy. But if you want an in depth story. Yeah... steer clear. Simple, Action, Boobs, and Panty Shots all wrapped into one. If you want a manga that has more of a story try Battle Vixens, there is more of a story and the same author put alot of work into both of these. OH! one more thing... just be warned there is a DG (Dick Girl/Guy) in the Manga!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Use of My Time, September 18, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Battle Club Volume 1 (Paperback)
Reading this manga is a great use of an hour or so. The story begins with Mokichi, an angry guy who likes to beat people up, though he's the one getting beat up. Mokichi stumbles upon a bouncy young girl doing someone elses' errand for Pocari (a tea or soda?). They stumble on one another, breaking Pocari bottles in the process. Anyway they get in a fight, Mokichi is humiliated in the front of the school, he joins a wrestling club and so on and on, and on. My favorite character and the only one I actually can relate to myself would be Taki, a cross-dresser who is really just a guy blessed with an overly feminine body. I really enjoyed flipping pages and eating up the book (not literal) and it's contents such as the gorgeous girls, and the high-powered action, which seem to fuel graphic novel, and without it 'Battle Club' would not be so great. And it is somewhat reminiscent to 'Battle Vixens'/Ikki Tousen because of the martial arts fighting theme and fanservice, although different storylines (of course.). And by the way the storyline is weak, but it's great and just what I was looking for and expected.
