5.0 out of 5 stars An All Time Classic, December 9, 2000

Metallah (Somewhere in the world) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Battle Cry (Audio CD)
Omen was one of these bands which came up during the 80's with some great power metal albums. Especially this first one "Battle Cry" is great. There is not much to say about it, if you like power metal you should simply hear it and you will love it! Also the next albums were great but don't burn your fingers on "Escape To Nowhere" if you can get it, because it simply is terribly bad! Battle Cry is one more legendary classic album

5.0 out of 5 stars Hear ye battle cry!, July 4, 2005
This review is from: Battle Cry (Audio CD)
Pretty good stuff you got there! Omen's first album is diversified, smooth but real good Heavy Metal. Sounds a bit like Iron Maiden (Piece of mind album) but Omen truly found it's own way and put itsef apart. Hard but harmonious riffs, good solos from Kenny Powell, the last song "In the arena" is the highlight of this album - overall a true classic!

Advice: Get yourself up to a good start, listen to the title track at first. Second advice: If you enjoy this first album, get yourself "Warning of danger" and "The curse" as well. You won't be dissapointed since they're both even better than the first.

Omen is one of those 80's Metal bands that came up with enough fury, good sound and excelent lyrics. If you're a serious Heavy Metal collector, this Album will be one of your favorites.

5.0 out of 5 stars battle cryyyyyyyy, March 10, 2007
This review is from: Battle Cry (Audio CD)
an amazing album that keeps you on headbanging mode from start to end. for classic fans of 80's heavy metal, this is a must in your collection. unique vocals and great playing from every member of the band. a good blend of maiden and early fates warning. i'm a huge fan of singers with high pitch but for jd kimball who happens to be of a low register, he mesmerised me with his talent. hear his battle cry.

4.0 out of 5 stars Buy This Cd, February 17, 2009
This review is from: Battle Cry (Audio CD)
As in one of my other reviews about the band Satan and their debut cd Court in the Act.This band was also signed by the metal label Banzai Records out of Montreal.I think Omen and Satan are similar. Both in sound and style. They are about equal in talent but J.D Kimball is a better singer than Brian Ross af Satan, but you cannot help to love the sound of Satan's double guitar attack that Omen didn't have. But if you love Metal Music and read this review you should buy this cd right away you won't be sorry it is a must have for every METALHEAD even if you don't know who Omen is BUY THIS CD!and find out you'll love it.

I'm not even a power metal fan and I have always loved this album and their second one (Warning of Danger). Their other stuff is only ok, but these first two are some of the best metal to come out of the 80s. I remember seeing the cover int the back of a metal magazine on the 1984 and I bought it just because of the cover. I have loved this album ever since.

5.0 out of 5 stars Death Rider vs. The Axeman, May 14, 2011

Omen were one of the bands I got into way back when some purchases I made were based only on the cover art alone. I mean for the love of good taste just LOOOOOK at that cheesy cover art...undead barbarians carrying giant axes, riding horses, and generally slaughtering what ever the heck those things are lying dead at their feet. Not to mention the bands name was on a SCROLL and the "O" in Omen was a coiled snake. The combination of these things in the mind of a sixteen year old metalhead was close enough to guarantee total metal nirvana, a must buy.

Little did I know at the time I was introducing myself to one of the best USPM albums ever. The buyer of this album gets familiar with dragons, wenches, fire, stabbings, various beasts and other medieval nastiness. "Into the Arena" is definitely the highlight here, JD Kimball's (RIP) rough and soaring vocals selling the song. Kenny Powell also shreds some traditional metal solos all over this album, and the bass/drum combo keeps it tight throughout. You just can't go wrong with the first three Omen slabs, but start here and work your way up to "The Curse" to gain some respect for one of metal's classic bands.
