5.0 out of 5 stars Great Unique Fighter March 15, 2010
Fun: 5.0 out of 5 stars
I loved Battle Fantasia. I'm an old school fighting game fan and I've been playing since the first arcade iteration of SFII. I'm a huge fan of unique characters and artwork and this game has them in spades. Not to mention pretty complex gameplay mechanics if you take the time to get into it. What's so great about Battle Fantasia is even a novice can play and win with great results.... and a more advanced player can really delve into the deeper mechanics. The storylines were pretty interesting and quirky as well.

At a less than $20 price point now is the time to pick up the title if you haven't already.

Fun: 4.0 out of 5 stars
I really liked the game for it's simplistic gameplay. It has a lot of subtlety to it but still remains simple. The story mode is cute if you are the type that chuckles at character interactions. I can see it being fun with a lot of friends but I can also see the extremely odd characters putting off people. While it probably isn't making it onto my favorite fighting game list, it has a lot of charm and is easy to pick up. That part I like a lot because it means that friends can learn it without having to study up like they would for most other fighting games. It is a bit of a return to simpler times, like the old street fighters or samurai showdown.

4.0 out of 5 stars Not half bad for an old school type fighter August 9, 2009
Fun: 4.0 out of 5 stars
I absolutely loved this game. It's a simplistic return to old school fighters. Considering this came from the creators of the guilty gear franchise, I was expecting it to be a fast paced, thumb blistering affair that requires cat like reflexes to get through the game. I was suprised to learn that it actually had more in common with street fighter more than guilty gear.
I'm not a huge fan of playing fighting games on the Xbox 360, as the joystick to me feels a little too loose and the D-pad is a nightmare to use due to its placement on the controller, but the characters control really well and are very responsive with the Joystick.
The game has a lot of really quirky and weird characters that are set in a fantasy type scenario. Truly, many of these characters are for most intents and puposes old-school-type RPG characters.
The game balances itself pretty well and the characters are well balanced and easy to learn.
However, it only loses one star in my opinion becuase of the tried and true (and somewhat annoying) formula of putting super cheap last boss characters into the game. Granted, with enough practice you can beat him, but in order to do so, you have to be cheap yourself.
The game has really good music, and also seems like something that stepped out of an RPG.
All in all it's a great game and I thought it was well worth the buy.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not impressive, but good enough July 9, 2010

Fun: 3.0 out of 5 stars
If you are primarily interested in the battle system, then hopefully you are looking for that lower-scale street fighter style of fighting. The game delivers that just fine. The fighting system requires you to spend some time learning it. That is a good thing, as it requires you to actually have skill with a certain character before you can face a worthy opponent.

There isn't a huge compliment of fighters, and it's hard to really get to know them since it's in all Japanese and you just read subtitles during the 'cutscenes.'

The story is presented in a visual novel style. It's not terribly interesting, but its not a bad story. You might find yourself in the beginning, skipping past without reading some things until things get more interesting.

Overall, though, it IS a fighting game. It will amuse you the most if you have plenty of people to play it with, but it is definitely more of a short-term space filler type of game, as opposed to anything epic.

Fun: 5.0 out of 5 stars
I actually found about this game by chance and for the great price it was going for decided why not and bought the game seeing that I was already playing BlueBlaze and Street Fighter IV at the time, and now I see that choice was a very smart one this game has proven to be just as entertaining and addictive as the previous mentioned two games. The game is about the same as most two person 2D fighting games as you have the standard arcade mode or you have the storyline mode and can see how it plays out for the character you pick to play with at the time, the animation voice cast and music all fit perfectly for the game and it will remind some of some other games a little like Eternal Sonata or the Final Fantasy games not in how you play the game itself but moor of the character designs and a few other things. If you think this is going to be a rpg game or something than think again as explained it's basically just a fighting game between two characters so if you were expecting more you might want to pass this over and try out another game like Final Fantasy an the like. So for any fan of games like Tekken or Street Fighter genre games here's another great one to add to the collection for your home gaming library...

4.0 out of 5 stars One of arc system work s best titles. March 1, 2015
the good
The gameplay
The game is more like street fighter third strike with a parry system and a cheap last boss like gill. The is a 3d side scroll fighter. Great humor in lines of darkstalkers. Target combos like dudleys are common with most characters.

Great art design and all unique characters to play as.

Good jpn voice actors that I never heard before.

Deep mechanics in combat.

Plenty of modes and good records.

The bad
An annoying,cheap last boss.

Some broken infinite combos and unblockable set ups.

Conclusion
Its very good game with plenty of creativity and replay value. Too bad no sequel was made. It deserves one.
