Suggested age-level not correct!,

This review is from: The Battle of Guadalcanal: Land and Sea Warfare in the South Pacific (Graphic Battles of World War II) (Paperback)
The suggested age level for this book is 4-8: but please note that the suggested age level for all the other books in this series appears to be 9-12. I have read this book and consider it appropriate for 9-12 year olds. It is a graphic book: there are drawings of dying and dead soldiers, shooting, bombs blowing up, etc -- as there ought to be if you are teaching history to a 9-12 year old. It is not appropriate for my 4 year old or my 6-year old or their peers. We'll certainly try it again in 3rd or 4th grade, but for now we will leave it on the shelf.

Great Graphics, Storyline for older kids,
By A. Ryden "kodiakrain" (Kodiak, Alaska) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Battle of Guadalcanal: Land and Sea Warfare in the South Pacific (Graphic Battles of World War II) (Paperback)
I really enjoyed the illustrations in this book as did my 7 yr old son. The storyline and strategies of the battle I found to be above his comprehension level. I bought it for his advancement as a young reader as he loves war stories and the illustrations capture his interest completely. I agree the age level of the reading and understanding history is a bit higher maybe over 8yrs? Otherwise, outstanding history for kids.
