4.0 out of 5 stars Melina from honey is back in the Greek music scene., June 16, 2002

Melina Tanagri isn't your typical Greek singer. Her lyrics aren't focused on the typical Greek subjects of "oh I am suffering from love". Instead Melina focuses on a variety of issues, both in her music and her lyrics. In "Oti Haneis (Whatever you lose)", she sounds like a best and dear close friend, giving you encouragement to go on, no matter what sort of losses you might have in life. In "Tosa Koritsia (So Many Girls)" she sings about the beauty of the many Greek girls, having fun, in "Fora (Force)" she sings about a universal theme, the need to take a few steps back and jump against all difficulties you might face. In "Nostalgia", the most complicated and weirdly musically co-existing song, she fuses 2 types of singing, old melodic singing almost bel-canto, with the more straight rap. In "Mikri Perispomeni", she laments about a lost greek grammar accent mark, that could also be talking about a dear friends, which comes to the song "I Fili (friends)", where she is talking about a friendship lost, but also found again, and renewed after some sleep, and pondering. Finally, my favorite song in the album is "Dio Kormakia"(two bodies), which is a Summer reminding song, about two people, under the sky's dome, united by their breath, and passion. This album is definitely worth a listen. Plus I adore the artwork. After 7 years of silence in the Greek music industry, this was a very much anticipated release by Melina. And she hasn't dissapointed her fans, or her will-be fans. I give it four stars, and not five, because I think the music could have been a little bit richer and not as simply arranged and executed.
Try to find previous CDs by her such as "Melina Ap'to Meli" or "Vizakia Exo Loipon", or her 2001 release simply titled "To Heis" for a more wordly mix of music (including Techno influences, Latin numbers, and rome blues to the mix).
