Book Description

March 25, 2008
Eyan Jericho has spent most of his adult life living for God and serving his country as one of the few and the proud Marines. Just before getting the orders for his third assignment in Iraq, his once solid marriage suddenly takes a turn for the worse, prompting his wife, Jan, and their twelve-year-old daughter, Kyla, to leave their family home on the Marine base in Twenty-Nine Palms, CA to permanently relocate to Atlanta. They will live with Jan's mother in an infamous community called Shelton Heights. Eyan loves the Lord, but when his calamity increases, will his faith decrease? As his latest tour of duty nears an end, he decides that it is the perfect time to say goodbye to military life and focus on reclaiming the family he loves so dearly. His plans are abruptly interrupted when Eyan finds himself a captured prisoner of war. As one by one the soldiers in his group are put to death at the hands of the enemy, survival doesn't seem likely for Master Sergeant Eyan Kyle Jericho, and he finds himself in the battle of a lifetime. How his life spiraled to this point, Eyan can't comprehend. All he knows it that all was well until that day in September when his wife decided to pay her mother a visit. Are all of the peculiar misfortunes that led to the breakup of his family and his capture in Iraq just happenstance, or has the legend of Shelton Heights caught up with yet another unsuspecting family?

5.0 out of 5 stars Oh, man! This is powerful!, April 21, 2008
This review is from: Battle of Jericho (Shelton Heights Series, Book 2) (Paperback)
Dayum!

As inappropriate as I know that word is to use to describe a Christian fiction novel, it's the first word that came out of my mouth when I finished reading this one. I am a military man, recently honorably discharged from the Marines so this book grabbed me from the first page. It is so real and the emotions and situations that the characters go through in this book (from the soldiers to their wives and children) are so accurate that you'd think the author spent some time serving Uncle Sam herself. This one takes the crown for me. I'm officially tagging Battle of Jericho as Kendra Norman-Bellamy's best work ever. And this sister has written some awesome books in the past. I've read all of them.

But this one....

Well, dayum! That's all I can say.

4.0 out of 5 stars Keeping The Faith, June 2, 2008
By
This review is from: Battle of Jericho (Shelton Heights Series, Book 2) (Paperback)
Battle of Jericho by Kendra Norman-Bellamy is a great testament to keeping the faith. Peter Jericho, a proud sergeant in the Marines, and his wife, Jan, of nearly thirteen years have separated. All things were perfect for the loving couple until one day when it seemed that all had gone wrong. Now a year and a half later, Jan and their daughter, Kyla, are still in Shelton Heights, Georgia with her mother, Leona. Six months after Jan left, Peter is called off to duty in Iraq. Only weeks before Peter is scheduled to return home, he is captured and held as a prisoner. Will Peter make it out alive and be able to reconcile his relationship with his wife?

All Peter knows to do is stay in prayer. Jan is left to worry about the man that she loves. Her best friend, Rachel, and her mother insist she not worry about him because they are no longer together. Jan holds on to the faith that her husband will return and that they will work things out. As Peter is held prisoner, he also keeps the faith. He hopes that he will return safely and reconnect with his family.

The holier than thou character of Jan's mother is most interesting. Everything to her was a sin. Hopefully those that have similar beliefs or know someone like this, can see how absurd it is and maybe learn a little about the interpretation of scriptures. Norman-Bellamy does a great job with character development. The story is captivating as she takes you into the life of a soldier. You feel connected and almost like you are there. It is the second book of the Shelton Heights Series and a definite must read.

4.0 out of 5 stars God is Always On Time - Truly Engaging, May 1, 2008
This review is from: Battle of Jericho (Shelton Heights Series, Book 2) (Paperback)
I too am an avid fan of Kendra Norman-Bellamy. She did not disappoint in this latest novel. The trials and tribulations that the soliders and their families endured were a true tug on my emotions. I found myself more drawn to the plight of the Marines and what they went through after being captured. Additionally, this book has another lesson that won't be revealed until the end. Together, these lessons prove that we need to always seek God and His answers in all situations, as well as, never giving up until God says it's over. Wonderful and engaging story!
