As inappropriate as I know that word is to use to describe a Christian fiction novel, it's the first word that came out of my mouth when I finished reading this one. I really liked the book. It had a great message and I really liked the story. The reason why I only gave it 3 stars was that for me the story dragged on and didn't really get interesting or climax until it was close to the end. I kept wanting stuff to hurry up and happen but it seemed like the character's daily lives were really detailed, and I mean every day. I also...

Dayum!

As inappropriate as I know that word is to use to describe a Christian fiction novel, it's the first word that came out of my mouth when I finished reading this one. I am a military man, recently honorably discharged from the Marines so this book grabbed me from the first page. It is so real and the emotions and situations that the characters go through in this book (from the soldiers to their wives and children) are so accurate that you'd think the author spent some time serving Uncle Sam herself. This one takes the crown for me. I'm officially tagging Battle of Jericho as Kendra Norman-Bellamy's best work ever. And this sister has written some awesome books in the past. I've read all of them.

But this one....

Well, dayum! That's all I can say.

4.0 out of 5 stars Keeping The Faith, June 2, 2008
By
Battle of Jericho by Kendra Norman-Bellamy is a great testament to keeping the faith. Peter Jericho, a proud sergeant in the Marines, and his wife, Jan, of nearly thirteen years have separated. All things were perfect for the loving couple until one day when it seemed that all had gone wrong. Now a year and a half later, Jan and their daughter, Kyla, are still in Shelton Heights, Georgia with her mother, Leona. Six months after Jan left, Peter is called off to duty in Iraq. Only weeks before Peter is scheduled to return home, he is captured and held as a prisoner. Will Peter make it out alive and be able to reconcile his relationship with his wife?

All Peter knows to do is stay in prayer. Jan is left to worry about the man that she loves. Her best friend, Rachel, and her mother insist she not worry about him because they are no longer together. Jan holds on to the faith that her husband will return and that they will work things out. As Peter is held prisoner, he also keeps the faith. He hopes that he will return safely and reconnect with his family.

The holier than thou character of Jan's mother is most interesting. Everything to her was a sin. Hopefully those that have similar beliefs or know someone like this, can see how absurd it is and maybe learn a little about the interpretation of scriptures. Norman-Bellamy does a great job with character development. The story is captivating as she takes you into the life of a soldier. You feel connected and almost like you are there. It is the second book of the Shelton Heights Series and a definite must read.

4.0 out of 5 stars God is Always On Time - Truly Engaging, May 1, 2008
I too am an avid fan of Kendra Norman-Bellamy. She did not disappoint in this latest novel. The trials and tribulations that the soliders and their families endured were a true tug on my emotions. I found myself more drawn to the plight of the Marines and what they went through after being captured. Additionally, this book has another lesson that won't be revealed until the end. Together, these lessons prove that we need to always seek God and His answers in all situations, as well as, never giving up until God says it's over. Wonderful and engaging story!

5.0 out of 5 stars A real eye opener to the battle our soldiers endure, January 23, 2010
I read Battle of Jericho in one day. Once I started reading it, I couldn't put it down. I had to find out what would happen to Jericho and his fellow soldiers. What an excellent portrayal of being a prisoner of war. Kendra did an excellent job of showing how prayer and faith works together. This book opened my eyes to how much more praying we need to do as Christians. Especially when we're a storm. This book has caused me to pray more for our soldiers. Thanks Kendra, this book was needed.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Battle is Not Yours Alone, August 25, 2009
"Battle of Jericho by author Kendra Norman Bellamy" is powerful read! It is the second installment in the "Shelton Heights" series. I have to be honest and tell you that when I started reading this book, I could not put it down! The book centers around Pete and Jan Jericho. They have been happily married for years, however, due to lack of trust, they find themselves separated from one another with the dreaded "D" word (divorce) in the midst.

When Pete is deployed to Iraq, and captured as a prisoner of war, his biggest fear is that he will not be able to tell his wife and daughter how much he loves them and needs them in his life. His strong Christian faith and values are the only weapons he has to help him make it through this very dark time in his life. This book has happy and sad moments. The characters are so believable, and some of them will make you want to choke them! You cannot go wrong with this book. I even learned a few scriptures, thanks to Jan's mother!

3.0 out of 5 stars dragged, June 25, 2011
I really liked the book. It had a great message and I really liked the story. The reason why I only gave it 3 stars was that for me the story dragged on and didn't really get interesting or climax until it was close to the end. I kept wanting stuff to hurry up and happen but it seemed like the character's daily lives were really detailed, and I mean every day. I also wanted to see more in the end. I wanted to see Jericho reuniting with his daughter and meeting Jade and her family. Everything just seemed to happen really slowly for me. I also didn't like that everything that Jan's mother said was documented. It did add some humor but after awhile it got to be too much and I just felt like, "ok I get the point." I just started to skip over what she said after awhile because it got annoying. Other than that the book was good and I felt that this was truly a Christian book.
