4.0 out of 5 stars Not an academic book, but a good account of the Korean War with pictures., December 19, 2009
This review is from: Battle for Korea: A History of the Korean Conflict (Paperback)
Mr. Dvorchak's "Battle for Korea: A History of the Korean Conflict" is a good book chronologically covering the Korean War in a play-by-play book filled with photos of each event. I emphasize the photos because of both their quantity (304 photos) and their quality (reportedly processed from Associated Press negatives).

While a good, reader-friendly book, it lacks sources with the exception of in-text references and quotes from service members. The author does not list footnotes, endnotes, or references. Additionally, the book lacks maps of sufficient detail to show where the cities, towns, and rivers are on the peninsula.

I would recommend this book for non-academic study of the Korean War (beyond the grade school level), for readers interested in the photographs and the basic play-by-play of the UN and Communist chess pieces, and as a basic reference for dates, events, commanders, etc. It would be a great basic Korean War book for middle school, high school, or local libraries. I would not recommend this as a textbook for college level studies.
