This review is from: Battle Master: Drills for Practical Self-Defense (Paperback)
Ballle master is one of the best written books I have read. This book has helped me to better understand the JKD philosphies, and has definately helped me with my training techniques. I have learned awesome training drills, and some helpful knowledge about JKD from this book. The battle master introduces reality into martial arts, which is what people should be realizing! all in all I would say the battle master is definately worth you time and money!!! ~jackie~

As a martial artist with 20 years of experience in various martial arts, I found this book to be an outstanding reference for training in in martial arts. There are effective drills to develop speed, strength, precision, sensitivity and conditioning, all important for success in martial arts. Additional drills cover sparring, weapons, miltiple opponents and attitude, as well as discussions on reality and the offensive levels of combat. Detailed explanations help the reader understand the concept and reality behind the drills which is crucial to performing them properly - many books give drills without delving into the why's and wherefores of their purpose. This book should rank right up there with the best JKD books around and belong on every serious martial artist's bookshelf.

not our style of self defense,

This review is from: Battle Master: Drills for Practical Self-Defense (Paperback)
Battle Master is not our style of self defense, This is why I found it so helpful in expanding my self defense techniques outside of the traditional korean arts. My instructor always stated that "it was a good thing to look into other martial arts and see what they offer, to know only what I teach you would limit you, to learn from any opportunity is growth". I would highly recommend this book to all martial artists.

Different,

This review is from: Battle Master: Drills for Practical Self-Defense (Paperback)
This book is not filled with the ordinary martial arts drills. It isn't traditional at all and this may explain why people either love it or hate it. The book has a lot of ways to train but not a lot of detailed techniques. It delivers exactly what is promised, a large collection of training drills that can be used to develop self-defense skills.

This review is from: Battle Master: Drills for Practical Self-Defense (Paperback)
This is a very poor book on drilling techniques, JKD, or for that matter self-defense. I would not recommend this book to any one serious about JKD.

I don't know what book these other two reviewers read, they MUST be students of Elwood. This book is NOT representive of the Jeet Kune Do. This does not look anything like what my Sifu is teaching me, and he is certified under three of Bruce Lee students.
