This volume from the "Incidents in the American Civil War" series contains the edited battle reports of five Union and six Confederate officers who participated in the Battle of Mobile Bay in 1864. Featured reports are by David G. Farragut, Rear-Admiral, USN, and Franklin Buchanan, Admiral, CSN. Other reports are by commanders of United States Steamers Hartford, Metacomet, Brooklyn and the monitor Manhattan; Confederate States Steamers Gaines, Selma, Morgan and the ram Tennessee. Also included is General Orders No. 10, preparing the Union fleet for battle; the battle report of Brig. Gen. R. L. Page (CSA), commanding Fort Morgan; and a report of casualties. Finely reproduced illustrations include three period maps plus a central map of battle; portraits of six commanding officers and four ships; and etchings of nine battle scenes.

Preface to the second edition by John F. Wakefield.
