Great 2 CD set with every tune you can ever remember used in the show. The Fantastically scored episode "Orion, Wonder Dog of Space" is included, with all its great tunes.

If you're wondering where your taste for permawave guitar noodling comes from, or why you like Jamiriquoi and that funky disco sound, it could be because you were five years old when you were exposed to the soundtrack of Battle of the Planets.

You can go for over 20 years without watching an episode, and as soon as you see a trailer or get the DVD, you'll remember every note as it gets played again. I guess that's the genius of the man who also wrote the Flinstones tunes, and was asked for something to make a space-faring kids' cartoon series live up to the heights of Star Wars.

If you want to play a game with someone born in the mid-'70s, just let them hear the tracks 'Alien Planet' or 'Spacey Mysterioso' without telling them what it is or where it's from :-) Some of the tracks like those two are so good they made alternative variations of them, and others I gave 5 Stars to in my iTunes library are 'Teenage Mysterioso', 'Two Monsters / Star Fight', 'BP-100' (classic, classic tension music), 'BP-105' (straight into the action, fighting the spooky monsters), 'BP-108' (remembered for when the Luminous One turns up for a chat) and 'BP-2002' (the flighty violins). Many of these are so good, like 'Alien Planet' you'll immediately associate it with leaving Earth and flying through space on the Phoenix, or listening to the 'Mysterioso's you can just see the monsters flying over cities ready to destroy them.

If you ever watched the series, not many things will bring a tingle to your spine like this CD, or a smile to your face like the Zark tunes. The clear stereo quality they give you here is far better than what you hear on the DVD episodes, too, and you'll find that watching the DVDs will make you crave the CD, not the other way around.
