Rebuild Your Own Girlfriend, January 2, 2001
By A Customer
Plot Synopsis
A simple story about a high school karate master possessed by a demon lord who is his doppleganger and wants to enslave the world by destroying a demonic fairy who also wants to enslave the world and who's also possessing a demon hunter, and the high-tech temporal security officer who's trying to stop most of them. Or at least some of them. And there's also a love triangle.
Review
Here we've got a demonic fairy queen (she's worse than she sounds) and her minions, the lord of the dark world, a time traveling agent in a battlesuit, a high school Karate student who likes to wear a jaguar mask when fighting (hmm, that sounds familiar...), and his girlfriend. Pretty standard fare, eh? More or less. This one has all the old elements, it just has more of them in one place at one time that you'd usually expect. Battle Royal High School has a mildly interesting plot, a smattering of humor, and loads of action. Nothing particularly special, but the particularly weird plot, the sheer volume of action (and blood--it's plenty gory), and animation well above par set this one apart. Also look for a very unusual and well animated scene with our hero reassembling his girlfriend from the inside out (don't see THAT every day...). There are some passable performances in the dubbed version, particularly the main character.
Overall, Battle Royale High school is just another martial arts/demon invasion action horror story, but it's quite well done, has lots of action, and has a few ususual bits that really stand out. Check it out if you like that kinda thing, but probably not worth the time otherwise (though I'd reccommend almost anybody with the stomach for it see the girlfriend reconstruction at least once).
