4.0 out of 5 stars Great for game night
I owned the original older version of Battle of the Sexes but had gone through most of the questions already. The new game has more modern trivia which is great. The old version had a lot of irrelevant questions (a LOT of obscure cooking terms for the female questions). The board seems unneccessary and we only halfway use it. It would make more sense to simply keep score...

versus
3.0 out of 5 stars Not as fun or fair as the original
We've played the original "Battle of the Sexes" for a few years and thought it was a decent addition to "game night" so when we saw this we thought what the heck... we'd update and try the new one.

The best parts of this game are the same as the best parts of the original: it's a trivia game pitting the ladies versus the men - with each team asked questions...

I owned the original older version of Battle of the Sexes but had gone through most of the questions already. The new game has more modern trivia which is great. The old version had a lot of irrelevant questions (a LOT of obscure cooking terms for the female questions). The board seems unneccessary and we only halfway use it. It would make more sense to simply keep score of which team answers the most correct questions. There are 3 questions per card, and I wish these were in order from least to most difficult. If you follow the game rules, often the first question on the card is impossible and so your turn is over. It is a really fun game though and one of our favortites to play at game night. There are always questions that are obvious to the women but not men and vice versa. We play at least once every couple of weeks.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not as fun or fair as the original, September 1, 2011

We've played the original "Battle of the Sexes" for a few years and thought it was a decent addition to "game night" so when we saw this we thought what the heck... we'd update and try the new one.

The best parts of this game are the same as the best parts of the original: it's a trivia game pitting the ladies versus the men - with each team asked questions that would normally be considered of interest to the opposite sex.

The set-up and basic game is basically the same as the original - which is okay, but there are areas where we noticed this game was less fair, less fun, and frankly sexist compared to the original - or to what the game COULD be.

Examples:

1. Less fair - Maybe they could have made "country specific" versions of the game. The average American man OR woman - or even extremely intelligent professional American sports journalist, is not likely to know the leader in career batting average in Test Cricket. But the ladies got the question that every man readily admitted they did not know.

2. Sexist: after a few questions the Mrs. asked "What do they think women DO all day??? Sit around watching soap operas and reading gossip magazines???" While the "male" questions might be about Nelson Mandela, the "female" questions are more likely to be about "General Hospital." All of us playing - an equal number of men and women with a variety of backgrounds and educations and professionas - agreed that the writers of the questions didn't seem to have a very high opinion of women compared to men. That's not a good starting place for a game like this.

We weren't so disgusted with it that we stopped playing - but this game is sliding to the back of the game-night rotation... and it's not likely to show back up again soon.

1.0 out of 5 stars disappointed, January 31, 2011

purchased this game for couples party. have played versions of this before. was very disappointed with the question type. thought it would be more "fun" trivia instead it's a lot of pop culture, science, movies, etc ---too much like a game of trivia pursuit. which i already have several versions of that game, was looking for something fun and different.
