This review is from: Battle Studies (Paperback)
As an amateur military historian I enjoyed this book. I've always been dumbfounded as to the logic of 18/19th century battle tactics (I mean, how stupid is it to wear a bright red coat and slowly march towards an enemy who is pointing a very scary gun in your direction). Well, this book explains exactly why they did that. I think it's possible to understand some of the theories as to why they did those mass charges during WW1.

Although there are eternal "nuggets of truth" peppered throughout this text which can be used by today's soldiers I believe there are better texts out there which help explain current military theories than Col. Du Picq.
