I love this movie, July 8, 2007
This review is from: Battle of the Worlds (DVD-R)
Ok, it's a cheap B flick, and I've yet to find a really good copy of this movie, but I still love it. The movie simply works. The odd, erie music, the cardboard acting, the budget effects, all get pulled together in a fine Friday night sci fi space movie thanks to a great performance put in by Claude Rains. He really makes the movie, his acting simply transforms a typical 2 start budget sci fi into a 4 star gem. A must see for classic sci fi fans!

IT'S NOT EASY BEING GREEN, September 11, 2008
This review is from: Battle of the Worlds (DVD-R)
From the beginning of the film, you know you are in store for what must be the most scratched film of all time - more than a car crash.
And half the time it's like a 3D film without the red side, without glasses - with green halos on the right of everything.
Sometimes there are more scratches than a cat's owner - vertical and otherwise and, yes they're green, instead of white.
Here's a clue: Near the end, I didn't know that was rain I was seeing until after a while. Yes, Claude Rains was in it.
The colour is always off, half the time like sepia tone, which is ironic because plants can't be green. It's not easy not being green. So, it truly looks like the first film ever made. This is confirmed by the special effects. No they were ok, but I found it really hard to watch the movie, although there weren't always more scratches than the stars in outer space.
I won't review the movie, because - I couldn't see the movie. No, one knows to always expect the expected.
But Claude Rains supreme, putting down all scientists but himself. There is actually 2 or 3 bits of unexpected humour. The true highlight is the spacey music, which isn't green.

Battle Of The Worlds A beautiful 'example of Italianate sci-fiction ..., May 25, 2010
... the special effects are so much craft and by their way fun. Movie valuable if you have the taste of naive, but not remarkable for its ability to charm and influence, focusing on atmosphere rather than the budget.
Second S.F. feature by A. Margheriti, aka A.M. Dawson, after Space Men (1960) which was signed with the pseudonym of Anthony Daisies. Screenplay by Vasily Petrov, a pseudonym of Ennio De Concini. Filmed with few resources and a great visual grace, but with special effects craft interesting suggestions metaphysical. Unforgettable zombie-aliens. Rains still in great shape.Italian title: Il pianeta degli Uomini Spenti; (Planet of the Men dead); reissued in '70 as " Planetary Wars". An italian Quatermass, more valuable if we consider the ability to work with Margaret in a few means available. The film is beautiful and enriched by the presence of Claude Rains, hired by the production because "it was cheap." Another jewel of Margheriti
