At dawn on D-Day the US Army's 1st and 29th infantry divisions launched their attack on Omaha Beach. The assaulting infantry were compelled to wade through shoulder-high water, under murderous fire, many being killed as they struggled ashore. Despite appalling difficulties, a bridgehead had been established by the evening of June 6.

Stephen Badsey has written more than fifty works of military history and theory, including several on the Battle of Normandy. He is also the author of the Utah Beach volume in the Battle Zone Normandy series. Tim Bean, Senior Lecturer at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst, is a specialist in the history of amphibious operations. He has contributed to several published works, his most recent being Russian Tanks of World War 2: Stalin's Armoured Might (with Will Fowler).

More of a Tour Book than a History Book,

I bought this book expecting it to be a detailed book about the Omaha Beach landings. Rather, the book was really a tour book designed for people planning on visiting Omaha Beach. There were some very good modern day pictures and the walking tours outlined in the book seemed like they would be very memorable, but this book is not for someone looking for a researched, historical book. The information in the book was general and it was not footnoted or referenced in anyway.
For someone looking for a serious and well researched book on the Omaha Beach landings, this book is not for you. For someone planning a trip to Omaha Beach or just looking for background information, this is a book for you.
