4.0 out of 5 stars Great Multiplayer Action
Even though it's showing its age, Battlefield 1942 is still a great multiplayer experience. I hust bought a new iMac G5 and my PC friends still wanted to game with me. After I installed the Desert Combat 0.7 modification we were off and playing online again. The only real issue is that even with a 2.0 Ghz G5 and 1.5 GB of RAM, it struggles against 49 bots on an enemy...

3.0 out of 5 stars Battlefield 1942
I enjoyed the simpified run and shoot arcade game because it was good practice for more advanced games like Halo, Medal of Honor and Call of Duty Modern Warfare.I realize that this game is rather old in comparison to the others. I wonder if there is an upgraded version with more realistic visuals and movements.

After I installed the Desert Combat 0.7 modification we were off and playing online again. The only real issue is that even with a 2.0 Ghz G5 and 1.5 GB of RAM, it struggles against 49 bots on an enemy team. Just play online against humans or keep the bot count a bit lower. I like the ability to play with my Windows using friends.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great, December 31, 2006

This game is a very fun game. If you've beaten all your MOH and COD games, give this one a try. It's lack of a path to follow make the game free and open, Not like MOH where you are led places by the games story. You'll love the re-playability, every battle is different, and chooseing axis or allies makes it even better. The tanks and cars are awsome. ( the planes take some getting used to.)
Battlefield Road to Rome is the iceing on the cake, it adds four new levels and two new armies, ( the French and the Italians. ) and more guns like the sten and some Italian mg, More tanks and better planes are at you're disposal.
Overall, two very fun games.

4.0 out of 5 stars Its Still Got It!, December 2, 2006
A Kid's Review
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Battlefield 1942: Deluxe Edition (Mac) (DVD-ROM)
Battlefield 1942 may be an older game, but its got amazing graphics for its time. I like to play games like Star Wars Battlefront(which is the same concept, ust in a Star Wars universe), which are games with "ticket" counters, command posts, and different "kits", including scout, assault, anti-tank, engineer, and medic. You can replay important battles in history, including Iwo Jima, Battle at the Bulge, etc. It does have a campaign mode, which I guess you could call its storyline, but if you want a good storyline, try Halo. My G5 can run it smoothly on medium setting, but it gets jumpy if you put it on high. Some of the battles are a little exclusive to one side(Axis or Allies), like Battle of Midway is almost impossible to beat as the Allies. With the addition of the Road to Rome expansion, you get more maps, more weapons, and more armies.

Gameplay: 5 stars

Maps: 4 stars

Graphics: 5 stars

Overall: An awesome game.

This game is fun
I had the demo before and I decided that it's not enough
this version has many maps and it enables you to play it online where there are a lot of servers and players
I like the graphics , not bad at all
you can fly planes drive cars and tanks and use different weapons to lead your team to victory

I run it under Mac X OS 10.4.11

I don't play a lot of games and I am a new Mac user as well. This plays great on my new MacBook Pro, 2.6 GHz, 4 Gb RAM, 512 video RAM, 200 Gb 7200 rpm drive, 17 -inch glossy screen Hi-Res. Smooth video and action. No problems what so ever. I'm very pleased.

4.0 out of 5 stars Multiplayer is great, August 21, 2006

BF1942 is my favorite FPS game ever. Maybe becasue i havent played a ton of other games, but still, this game is great. The graphics are OK, not the best, but still acceptable. Playing singleplayer will not really get you a feel of what really goes on on the Battlefield, but playing multiplayer will. This game is by far the greatest WWII multiplayer game ever. No other game comes close. You can talk to anyone playing the game with you, and there are not any stupid AI who dont know how to shoot a bullet.

I would say that this game doesnt really give you a feel of what being a soldier in WWII was like, since it isnt the most realistic thing ever, but who cares when you can run over guys in a jeep, or crash a spitfire into whatever you want. This game lets you use TONS of different tanks, jeeps, planes and guns whenever you want to. You can kill the enemy in a hundred diffeerent ways.

This game is alot like Star Wars Battlefront 2 and 1 becasue there are outposts you want to capture and large maps to fight on.
The only thing to be worried about is when playing on multiplayer, macs get lag real easy. I have played on a windows before with the ALL of the graphics, and textures, and everything like that turned WAY up. And the still dont get lag with 50 other people. But on Macs, prepared to have to turn down the graphics a ways, and stay off servers with a ton os people, then you will reallly get a good vibe for this game

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Game, February 8, 2008
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Battlefield 1942: Deluxe Edition (Mac) (DVD-ROM)
This game is one of my all time favorite games! Although the game's campain is just facing the computer on a map. The game makes up for it by the killer 64 player online and the 35 vehicles you can operate. The online play is simply awsome, you can spend hours and hours on it. Another good feature are all of the mods for the game. The best one is called desert combat and is a must have! With operating this game i found no problums. No glitches, or any kind of problums running it. Although on 64 player matches expect some lag. Over all if you love 1st person world war II shooters, and great online play. Then this game is a must have!
