1.0 out of 5 stars This game is awesome... the 10% of the time it works. November 21, 2013
Platform for Display:PlayStation 4|Edition:Standard
I'm a pretty easy person to please. If one component of a game doesn't work, I'll patiently move on to a different component or figure out a workaround. Here's what BF4 has been like for me:

Multiplayer's biggest draw (64-player conquest) doesn't work.

No problem, I'll play other multiplayer modes.

Other modes kick you out of games 50% of the time.

No problem, I'll play single player campaign.

Single player save files are corrupted and/or deleted around 50% of the time.

No problem. I'll make sure I arduously back up the save file every time I play.

After busting ass on a 90-minute long level, my save file gets corrupted between the 10 seconds it takes me to finish the session and back it up.

No problem. I'll just go out to the garage, douse this game in gasoline and smack the molten plastic as it burns with a rusty shovel.

UPDATED: From 2 STARS to 4 STARS, reasons shown at the bottom.

I first got into the Battlefield series on the PS3 with Battlefield 3. I absolutely loved it. I've heard all the arguments against it, but it sat very well with me and provided hours of great fun for my buddies and me. Naturally, I have been very excited for this game after the experience I had with BF3.

Sadly, this has been a profound disappointment so far. I have had the game since the PS4 launch, and I have managed to play through the single player once and about a dozen of multiplayer matches. I haven't had as many issues as some of the other comments have described, but my experience has certainly not been bug free. The game crashes regularly (I'm lucky I made it through the campaign unscathed), commander mode is broken, matchmaking is unreliable at best, no prelobby party creation options, and the netcode is one of the worst I've seen. I still haven't played a single conquest match, the absolute bread and butter of the Battlefield series. Needless to say, the game is utterly unfinished, and EA has managed to prove that they rushed this title through testing in an attempt to make some extra cash (something EA tends to do regularly). On top of all of that, the campaign is dry to say the least. I played it out of a sense of obligation. It's simple, don't buy this game for the campaign, it is a multiplayer experience with a crappy mini-game attached.

All that being said, I gave the game 2 stars, instead of 1, for a reason. Something you may notice about the issues being experienced so far (other than the connection to EA, and the low quality campaign), are all things that can be fixed via patch.

1.0 out of 5 stars Avoid Battlefield 4 -- From a Battlefield fan March 2, 2014
Platform for Display:PlayStation 4| Edition:Standard|Verified Purchase
Man was I looking forward to Battlefield 4. The hype was huge.

Though DICE has fixed many issues in this game already, it is still riddled with endless annoyances.

I've put in over 100 hours into BF4 hoping it would get better the longer you play it, but it really doesn't.

80% of the time this game is not fun at all.

Things that piss me off:

1. Lag on Conquest Large
2. 3rd person vehicle physics
3. Not all shots do damage (net code related)
4. Shot behind cover (net code related)
5. New item notifications in the menus are broken (notifies of items previously unlocked (orange triangle))
6. Characters awkwardly vibrate when you walk/run into/near a teammate
7. Insertion into game at very end of round
8. Unbalanced servers
9. Spawning (is it too hard for DICE to make a smart spawn system with one simple algorithm: don't spawn in an enemies view or vicinity)
10. Battle pickups broken (how long do you have to hold triangle to pick up these weapons? It's about 2.22399790620 seconds, because if you're off, it'll throw the weapon back down, and 95% of the time this is what happens )

This game doesn't feel fair, and is rarely fun.

Take Battlefield 3, add a bunch of bugs but hide it under new weapons, maps, gadgets, vehicles so hopefully we won't notice the bugs... then you have BF4.

Don't even get me started on the horrible campaign.

I would love to say that I'm going back to Battlefield 3, but I've put in over 400 hours into that game and am done with it. I could try even Bad Company 2, which is my favorite. But the servers are quite empty and the thrill of that great game has worn off when BF3 came out.

1.0 out of 5 stars Beyond the bugs, still a bad game March 28, 2014
By T.B.
Platform for Display:PlayStation 4|Edition:Standard
Yes, this game is totally broken. In all probability, it will never work...but I digress. Even if this game was to work perfectly, it's still completely awful. It is essentially a bloated, messy, unthought-out continuation of battlefield 3. Some moronic additions include; anti-aircraft vehicles, that can shoot aircrafts down from literally across the map, on every level, anti-air boats, anti-air mines, etc... (hope you didn't want to stay in a helicopter for longer than 30 seconds), AC-130's on every level, a severe reduction in effectiveness of anti-vehicle weapons for engineers, snipers get C4 because they weren't annoying enough already, the removal of the 3rd seat from tanks, and the list goes on. The problem with battlefield is that a good 70% of players don't know how to play the game. More and more transplants from COD pick up the game and complain about everything because they have no idea what to do. For some reason, the developers apparently listened to them and changed the fair and balanced things to please the masses and ended up completely ruining them game. I saw on a list of bugs to be fixed, someone was complaining that when a helicopter gets hit by an explosive, it tips over, and was trying to claim that to be a bug. Obviously it's going to tip over, do you not know how physics work? I loved the earlier Battlefield games, especially Battlefield 3, but this....this is not Battlefield. This is garbage.
