**August 2014 Update**: I'm cautiously taking my review back from one to three stars. I'm playing BF4 again via EA Access (which is the way I would recommend anyway, $5 is certainly worth a one month trial, if you don't want to pony up for a $30/year). So far many of the bugs I noticed before are gone, but I still need to take it through its paces with friends.

Very disappointed in BF4. I'm a big fan, but I just can't sit by as EA and DICE release what feels like the buggiest Battlefield ever shipped. The graphics on Xbox One are very nice and this game truly feels next gen, but I experienced in just a few hours of playing: audio dropouts, quick match not connecting me to the right servers, frequently servers would pop up and request another $50 for premium upgrade, getting kicked out of servers, crashing back to the home (only X1 game I'm having this problem with) and a complete lack of any functionality to group up in a party/squad pre-game. I'd love to be playing BF4 right now, but the reason I get it is for multiplayer gaming with friends an it is absolutely unfit and broken for that purpose.

BF3 had its problems too, and is running pretty good I'm hopeful that maybe they will fix it and I'll just buy the premium version next year (I went ahead and traded away BF4 for $40 since its essentially unplayable for me). Although its pretty frustrating how ripped off I feel (I should have gotten a full refund).

Oh well, back to BF3 Premium for now. At least it works, though its a bummer having to play on 360 (instead of One).

1.0 out of 5 stars Great game when works, but it doesn't work December 9, 2013
Platform for Display:Xbox One| Edition:Standard|Verified Purchase
This game has so many problems, that it will more than likely take up ti'll Feb, or March to fix them all. Lag is a problem like always, but getting into games is horrible. I got the day one edition and BF4, and I think the game is great! but getting the game to work is a problem, I get dashboarded atleast once out of every 3 matches.. sometimes 1 for 1, but the best its been is 3 games then get dashboarded. Or you will be in the middle of the game, probally your best game and get dashboarded. That and the stupid pop up messages, saying do you want to play with your friend, on this map.. takes up whole screen can't control person.. I was in a jet, and crashed into a building because of that message.. completely retarted!! After playing 2 levels/chapters in bf4 campaign it deleted my progress on its own. People can already glitch in metro! which im happy with xbox recording on command so i can record those cheaters, and people who ruin the game and report them with proof now! finding a server is horrible, and the maps i pick, sometimes put me in a completely diffrent game.. i think the game is great when it works, but for now its only good to be my coaster to set my beer on while i watch football and hockey games. party chat doesn't work while you try to start it up while playing the game. although we did find out if you quit the game completely, then make a party, then you can stay in party chat and play with friends.. still its completely unnecessary to do all that just to talk with friends.. if the game works like it should i'd probally give it 5 stars, because it is fun, and can be great.. but it only works about 25% of the time, so ti'll about march save your money.. because game is 60, premium is 50.. so save your money ti'll game is fixed!

1.0 out of 5 stars Not just kind of broken... December 3, 2013
Platform for Display:Xbox One|Edition:Standard
This has been my most frustrating experience in a game ever. Not just kind of broken, pretty much completely unplayable. Game crashes constantly, servers will not let you into a game, playing with friends is near impossible, audio bugs abound, fairly laggy at times.

Let's be clear, I have had this game since day one and have been able to play close to 10 matches. When everything worked well, 64 player conquest was one of the most fun gaming experiences I have ever had. Unfortunately, everything doesn't work well. And I cannot rate a game based on potential.

By the time they get the servers working properly, balancing issues resolved (they haven't even started working on those), audio glitches, campaign issues, etc. I predict this game will be fully playable mid-January. Save your money for now. I wish I never got the game. Don't support a franchise that can release a game that does not work.

1.0 out of 5 stars A broken buggy mess December 2, 2013
Platform for Display:Xbox One|Edition:Standard
This game barely works. When it does, it's awesome. The problem is that I spend more time trying to get into servers than I do playing. When I do make it into a random server, there is a good chance the game will crash to the dashboard before I can complete a map.

So frustrating - do not buy right now. Wait a while until they fix this mess, if they ever do.

Edit - I am sitting on my couch trying to get multiplayer to work for the last 45 minutes or so. No luck - maybe I should continue my single player campaign? NOPE! For the second time, all my campaign progress has been deleted. I cannot stand to play the first 60% of this game for the third time. The fun I've had with this game has been greatly overshadowed by the unreal frustration I've felt with it.

This is my only XBox One game too - now I've essentially got a $550 netflix machine.
